I don't get it, I thought speedos are supposed to be accurate if its stock. Are people just saying its inaccurate when its nearing the top speed or something? If not isn't it a problem when it comes to speed cameras?
Car dials can be innacurate, it's quite common, you're best bet is to measure your speed on on a sat nav or something similar. It's probably one of the reasons speed camera have a give of 2-3 mph usually to account for inaccurate speedo's!
It depends largely on your rolling diameter. Changing the size of your wheels, tyres etc is always going to throw both your odometer and speedo off slightly!
In my case, stock EJ8 wheels are 14" (i think), and I was using 17" with 215/45 tyres.....when I used my sat nav the speed was way off....around 90mph speedo was about 81mph on the sat nav.
I'm now using 16" with 205/45 tyres and 90mph on the speedo is about 84mph....
Lower down though, 30mph on the speedo is more or less 30mph on the sat nav, so I think it only really matters as the speed builds up!
