Ek9 Top Speed


I see alot of sense in Topher-EK4 theory... I like that thought!

There is a top speed and there is a realistic top speed.

My EK9 with B18 would quite easily hit 135MPH(speedo) I would say.. The other 10MPH would be a struggle. Even though it could do it i would have to cover a ridiculous amount of ground.. Most cases i would only have room for 130MPH. So that was realistic.

Now my 350Z ive hit 162MPH(limiter) a few times but required a long stretch to be fair even though it climbed there quite happily but i wouldnt say its realistic. But id say most cases i have room for about 150MPH(speedo)145GPS-ish.. Or close to there.. After that MPH require a little room that isnt there often.

I like the idea of that thought.. Ive never thought about it like that.
 
a neighbour of mine had a b18c ek4 and it would do 264kph which is 165mph which is pretty damn quick! it only had breather mods and a remap as far as im aware! very quick car!! here a pic :D Login | Facebook

glad you appreciate it mate, confirms to me it makes sense that you understand what i was trying to get across...

The Z sounds in a different league mate, i'll bet it is SO planted at that speed aswell...

Nah thats cool, I like to read peoples views on things..

Oh at that speed it feels beautiful lol... Just sides through the air and hold the road.. Its geared to 180MPH @6500RPM in 6th. And its said to have the aerodynamics to do that speed just fine. Just need to de-limit add supercharger and im away lol!!!

honda speedo's over read, a lot. especially the uk ones, witnesed first hand with a road angel and satnav in my mates uk eg6. There's no way even a standard b18c would hit 150mph without the help of a cliff. It took a hill just to get 147mph on the road angel out of my b18c ek9 and that's modded.( showed around 155mph on the dials)

I say "REALISTIC TOP SPEED" as the speed the car can get up to quickly as i found up to about 110 - 115 the EK4 has plenty of acceleration but anything after this is simply not realistic speed as the car was accelerating at a ridicuously slow rate and taking a Massive amount of distance to get to its top speed.

For example I have a mate that owns a subaru impreza and he says he has had it 165MPH on a GPS i don't doubt this as it has a lot of work done to it but in reality his subaru is very quick to 135 MPH anything after this and it feels likes its just slowly creeping

So i would actually say a stock EK4 has a realistic speed of just under 120 MPH and i should think an EK9 is probably about the same if not 125 MPH yes they may well both be able to do 145MPH but it takes ages to get there and about 3 miles of road so really it is not within the capabilities of the car as it has to be pushed to get there where as 115mph - 120mph is easily achievable..

Supercars are for people who want to talk about top speed...
PLus i know its much more fun racing a porshce boxter and beating him from the traffic lights to 105 MPH and then he roars off to his 160MPH top speed but who really won the race?? and who had the most fun??

ME and he knew it aswell.... lol

cheers chris thats a very good point you make there, not that I know from my car but from wat you are saying sounds about right tbh. These cars are not made to hit these speeds all about the acceleration :)

Haha quality mate, ive got new shocks and springs on my ej9 but still wouldnt see me goin that fast in mines not to mention you would need to push it down a cliff to to 120 lol only my 1st car anyway so I am goin more for looks that speed :)

i was talking about a stock EK4 with an air filter and a mugen twinloop back box so as near to stock as you can get really... was yours modded at all mate.
135mph true speed ??? or speedo indicated..??

i wish mine did 135 MPH quickly mine was pushed to even get to 135 MPH let alone quickly lol
about 134 MPH - 135 MPH gps speed is all i could get from mine with minor mod's took a life time to get the extra speed after 125..

I had a 4-1 manifold decat and buddyclub cat back - j's racing intake

had 173bhp - got to 135 speedo pretty quick. so probably around 130 or just under true speed

then with b18c 210bhp

Why cant you read the whole thread I alredy posted up the RPM vs MPH graph - providing the gearbox is standard 5th gear on the rev limiter is about 150mph :angry2:

Already told you it can do more than 120 - I used to have a screenshot of my speedo at 130 (even if its inaccurate my tom tom always showed my ej9 only a couple mph out)

Dont get me wrong it took forever to get there
 
150 mph on speedo 142 mph on gps. near the limiter so i'd say another few mph but thats it.

my ek9 was at... well the needle was at the first "c" of the civic type r logo in the clocks and i still had 5th gear to pull...:D

My 9 will do 100000kmh...just and tegiwa intake, spoon exhaust and flux capacitor. Plenty of revs left aswell :nice:

I agree an EJ9 past 70-80 on stock suspension and brakes is like doing 70-80 on a bouncy castle. Far too much roll in the body at stock. I simply refused to drive my EJ9 past 70 due to the complete lack of controllability on the road. Even if the car was lowered and stiffened up I would still find 120 terrifying on an EJ9, unless of course the inlet manifold was changed to a Y8 stock which I suppose would give more upper top speed. Still 120.. :shocked:

totally agree with you mate, i've got a 2000 ej9. even though ive got the ek4-vti dampers and lowering springs around 80mph is about my limit far to bouncy if you hit a dodgy bit of road god knows where you would end up :nono:
 
Stock ek9 ecu doesnt let you go over 124mph (200kmh)

I almost heard a pop when it hit the limiter, an the needle was going off the cluster :)
 
my ek9 as a 1.6 used to slam 170MPH on the clocks and 163MPH on the GPS at 9000rpm :p

no you can reach 120mph in a ej9 I have done it mine, the speedo says 125, but I know your supposed to minus 5mph because they are always out.
