K20A - A few home truths.

Sometimes I feel like you patronise people JT ha.

I am talking about a standard engine, and for k20 being reliable, are you saying there will be no swap issues? if you think that then your simply deluded haha.

there is a guy in england just now called rikky(company race tech) turboing stock engined hondas the now, including a boy i know in real lifes ITR to 300bhp with absolutely no issues for a year before he sold it on. only engine mod was a thicket head gasket.

he also has several b18c4's making circa 400bhp running low 12 second QM's with no reliability issues (apart from destroying CV's every now and again haha)

even if your b16 or b18c4 blows up at 400 bhp, you could replace it nearly 4 times over for the price of a kswap ;)

Ricky really seems to have mastered the art of turbo'ing and tuning stock b series blocks reliably mate:)

Here is another Teg Si he tuned today:

Integra DC2 :: Log in

Will run fine in a daily yeah. Most people don't use it that hard. But you try doing 5 laps of Nordschleife after eachother on full load, maybe a few times and I'd like to see what's left of the turbo engine with stock internals and 300hp :p

errrm....the car in the above link which Ricky tuned is infact a track and drag car:p

Really???? Wow, wouldn't expect that tbh. But thats nice then :nice: So he does trackdays with 300bhp turbo B18c4?

I do believe so bud:). It has done 20,000 miles on that setup and now has 140,000 miles on the clock:wow:

Anyway, I will shutup and stop thread jacking now. More details inc graph are on here:

400bhp ha. And I'm prob never going to do 5 laps of the nurburgring haha. My car is for fast road use really an is a second car. Buy aye enough thread jack, you can either choose to believe about turboing standard Honda engines or not

Imho it's not that black or white ;) But if you'd like to talk about it, you can pm me :)

So back to topic, at the start of April BTB said they could fit me in at the end of the month, then we tried Simpsons as they are closer, same cost and lead time, Tom stated it was urgent, photos were sent, and things agreed.
Then at the end of April the car is loaded onto the trailer, and a quick call to Simpsons to get directions, only to be told....you are not booked in WTF!!!! So a whole month lost.

After a call to another supplier after hanging up, we were recomended the SK2 megapower (£800) or the DC Sports (£300), that definately 100% work with the Hasport EKK2 mounts, the SK2 was reputed to be the better fit, and the DC would need a touch of jiggling. The DC was delivered next morning.
Straight away out of the box you could see it was shorter, more compact, and it is a one piece item, totally different to the SSR, it is the ceramic coated item, not the best quality manifold for sure but if it works..
It was fitted shortly afterward with no fuss at all, the angle is correct and it doesnt hang low, it even had masses of room to leave the ABS pump in place. TOTAL contrast to the SSR. Now I know Mike has done conversions with the SSR and I believe him that it works, however I think after fitting the DC, that there must be something wrong with the SSR I have. If it is meant to sit like it was then it is simply unnaceptable, maybe we will see later if it can be used on another install. But if the DC fits perfect why didnt the SSR?

we run a Dc K swap header on teh K20 DC2, fits a treat and its lasting well,

pretty sure they were EKK2 mounts mate,, would have to get the receipts checked,, think we went for those as you get a better driveshaft angle than with the ekk1 set,,

Now before i say this i want you to know i admire anyone that does this swap and gets their car running the way they want it and lets face it - who doesnt want a K series EK but.......

This is why B18C is a great swap !! Or stroking for that matter, B18 swap can be done in less a day by a blind man !! Then if you put some money into the engine you could make around the 240bhp mark reliably many different ways.

K series will always make more power than b series

Couldnt agree more Barry. At the time I wanted a K series, so I went for it. Plenty of time to think on what could have been, being able to keep my MFactory box etc, but I can only go forward now, as said previously, full judgement is reserved until I hit the track.

bump now youv had this a while and got some questions :nerv:

is this your daily car man? if not how often you drive it on the road?

hows the road performance?

would you do it all again or do a fully built b18c?

scuffed the sump off anything?

if you could answer these youd be a true champ!

x2! ?? :thanks:

from the track evening at Brands Hatch over taking some Porkers in the wet few weeks back id say he's happy with it ;)

Was going to raise this thread today, had a couple of issues, but first the questions.

Daily car, get a lot of tools in it. Road performance: acceleration is good but its still a real handful with no power steering, you fight with the diff as you change up, the close 5th/6th are immense on the motorway, I did take it up to Donny straight speed today to see if my problem was sorted, it seemed to lack fueling up top.
Do it again, when I got it back the answer was no, I would have bought a B18 and stroked it, leaving my own engine in the car so I could still drive it. But now I think the gearbox has swayed it for me.
Was worried about the sump at Brands - Paddock Hill, as I only run 10/8 springs but it was wet so I wasnt flat out, all ok so far.
