So far not impressed, its a pile of sh*te. Where to begin.

Let me start by saying if you are thinking of this, choose your parts very very carefully. Make sure that you get all the bolts that come with the DC2 donor parts. Make sure your K20 box and engine have all the bolts with it, this has been some major grief for such a small issue.

There is much story to my build. Im using Hasport EKK2 mounts, they are very well made. However they have two sets of holes, at the front of the engine I am on the higher set, and the rear the lowest - my oil filler cap is in contact with the underside of the bonnet, so this must be trimmed, again a small issue but these conversions have been going a long time now, so I consider it poor. If I use the holes the other way I would need to cut a big hole in the bonnet.

Now for my first real issue, I have an SSR 4-2-1 header and it is sh*te. Firstly I have had to remove the subframe brace, to some this is nothing for me it is unnaceptable. The header points downward, so much so that on fitting the next bit of exhaust it would almost hit the ground. The header is in three parts, the holes from part 2 to part 3 (the collector) do not line up, so even if this header is compatible with other engine mounts it is still poorly made. NO amount of jiggling will make this work, I now need another header, a major expense in money and time.

At the moment the ABS pump is wedged between the header and the steering rack, with this header it would have to go, another poor design imo.

Sump clearance is barley a couple of inches, and it is totally exposed. My car is not that low, a bar will have to be fabricated across the two tow eye points for some protection imo, and a new tow setup thought of. Im really not sure what people are doing if they actually race with this setup, as at the moment I am sceptical about riding kerbs on a trackday, and speedhumps on the road is going to be a pain in the ar*e.

I am using the DSS 2.9 axles, I have concerns here also but until I can actually drive it I cannot confirm.

My engine and box are supposed to be low mileage, 36k. Now the engine looks like this maybe the case, but there are unfounded rumours about it history wise that has just come to light, the box is definately not imo, it is all stained on the inside - be careful what you buy. This thread is not to condemn anybody, but to highlight my particular issues so far to any future swappers.

Unfortunately the pictures I took on my phone this morning have dissapeared and the car is now off the ramp, typical of my luck so far. There will be more to come, but I am totally hacked off so far and feel the need to vent, as my build has come to a grinding halt. My Spa trackday next Friday has been cancelled due to the track caving in, and I have no car for the Ring trip.

:nerv: Really sorry to hear youv'e had so much trouble, Since you announced you were going down the K-swap route Ive been looking around the forum to see if you have any updates. I think I speak for most of the forum when I wish you the best of luck in finishing this and hope that all the pain is worth it when you finally get up and running.

Sorry to head about all this mate
do you know of other people having the same troubles or just the place your having it done ?

No swap is without its faults, i am not a fan of the k swap personally, i hate the cable shifter and many other things about the setup but it has its pros too.

Sounds like a major ball ache and I know how frustrating it can be. I've got through a lot of **** with past vehicles.

However, I'm sure once you get things figured out, you will have a blast with the car and new engine.

Good luck.

Well said man. Here's to some luck your way Chris. ;)

i've had some of your problems too. the worst thing in my opinion is the need of taking off the subframe reinforcement in a dc2 subframe, i think that is unnaceptable too because without it it's just like a eg3/4/5 subframe...

are you keeping power steering our you're going to use a non-power steering rack?

I know the advantages, its just all I can see is the now, and its a major headache. There has been some hold ups at TGM, but if I had the right bolts at a certain time I would be well past this stage, and that was my fault, I assumed I had EVERYTHING, as said there is a lot to this story, the weather and delivery options have hindered me as well as other problem builds, but no garage would make this SSR fit.

I need all the luck I can get! I have emailed SK2 & K-Tuned on the fitment of their headers and waiting on a reply, I cannot afford another poor fitment header.

my friend got a eg with k20 swap fully running but now and again he get few knocking noise from the rear mount he siad its really anoy.
but sorry to hear about the k20 swap hope u can fit it and get back on track

me and my mates are just finalizing our k20eg, and like you we have had a lot of issues and needed bits modified. Also seem to spend half of my life waiting for bits from America as well! Sure it will be worth it in the end though!

Teething troubles man, its a complex swap.

Stick with it, It WILL be worth it when you finish.

Apart from some wiring on the loom, there is nothing complex about it. I dont call 'wasting' over 1k on two headers, teething troubles either, its sh*te plain and simple, sure there will be issues, but for a conversion that has been around for some time it just isnt adding up at the moment.

Oh dear, this isnt good ro read. Thanks for the heads up though and sorry youve had to find out the hard way.

the cost of this conversion when done with attention to detail and everything working correctly etc is expensive (many kids that do it often cut corners and often dont even realise), best options in many cases is custom fab work even though many companies sell of the shelf kits etc but many arent well thought out etc

hope you get it all sorted haitch

actually nice to see honest first hand post as lot of mis information on net as usual and many raving about it while not mentioning/covering up problems

this is sad news chris what a pain in the arse i hope you mangae to sort it out asap :)) would the dc header not fit??

This is the 1st time ive heard somebody descibe the problems fitting a k20, some other ppl would make ya think its as simple as droppin in the engine and tightening a few bolts, when its obviously not

As with all my modifications I like to say what works and what doesnt. There are very few k swap headers to choose from, some obviously work better with certain mounts than others.
I am contacting each manufacturer for info, any header will do so DC is an option if it works. As you say Umran many do the swap without realising 'how' they have resolved issues or not.
