Jimmys Ek9 - b20 to k20 s/c build

What pistons did you go with? head gasket? I`m doing a similar built with an 89mm crank, eagle I beams (stock stroke) and 82mm CP pistons only because sleeving is a no-no in my country. Personally i`d go with toda C`s or similar and do a good head job instead of ITB`s, but then again it`s what every person likes. Good luck and keeps us posted!

where did you get clutch and flywheel from? im after one for my build atm

this build is na right?

Yes this is a NA build, I'll send you the info where I got them from :nice:

Went with wisco 84mm pistons (12.5C/r), Currently Im sticking with an Oem head gasket may change it later on in the build however. How come sleeving is a no-no in Greece if I may ask? I was thinking of Toda valvetrain :nice:. I'm having extra porting and polishing on inlet/exhaust manifolds. Will scrap the ITBs if they don't produce a good enough air flow..

good luck with this building
I know it's not too difficult to reach 250hp but really a lot of work to do
I had in mind to start with this project but it needs also $$$ or £££ :p

Cheers buddy, Yeah I've come to terms with the fact is gonna cost, racked up quite a fair bit already to be honest - should be worth it though. :nice:

+ After inspection of the top end.. found a ever so slight bend in the intake valve. Another thing to get changed!

Sorry for the double post but here's the current update:

Received the bottom end back from machining, Bottom end cleaned, prepped and inspected. Bearings fitted, crank plastigauged (All perfect 0.002") ARP studs fitted and torqued.

More to come in the week! :nice:

Engine finally being put back together now.. Untill a snag was hit.. Carrillo have sent me B18A rods instead of B18C rods (1mm shorter and too fat for the crank journal)

B18C rods are on there way to the workshop! :nice:, Have got replacement ITB's and the Mfactory gear sets are on there was aswell. Coming together quite nicely now! :drive:

Just got another nice find in my ek9 - a Cusco Lsd! Not sure what type, will find out soon though!

Engine should be fully built no later than wednesday next week!

Really hope it comes together ok looking forward to seeing this on the EK9 dyno day hope you can make it.

Are you talking about the Surrey RR by any chance? If so I can't make that , I've told haitch to remove me, I have a detachment. My training takes priority.

But If I get off early I can always pop over and say hi :nice:

Build is coming along nicely i see. The thing with toda valve springs is they are very soft (eg toda b 12mm lift, toda valve springs 12.5mm) which for some is good thinking they are progressive like OEM ones, but in a wrong shifting could cost you your valves the very least. I preferred to go with a ferrea valvetrain. If you were to use an aftermarket head gasket, if you don`t mind me suggesting the golden eagle one, which is OEM laser cut, and stay away from cometics. Too many bad experience with them with B20`s.Regarding sleeving in Greece; there are very few workshops rumored to be up to the task, but up until now none where able to stand to their reputation.

Keep your posts up!

Coming along well chap, sorry to hear about the break in and loss of parts.

Pateras, Golden eagle B20 gaskets used to be cometic items ;) but as his is a B16b block a 84mm vtec head gasket can be used. I have had issues with the cometic b20 converison gasket on b20's with leaks from the front let hand corner of the block, we now use our own custom kit with stock honda B20 head gasket

Waz, 84mm will certainly help with the build, will give you a few extra cc's and some more torque, with the B18 crank/rods should see you around 1933cc it will be revier than a B20. Have you decided on cams yet?

Engine pretty much complete! Should be done by the 18th of march if everything else goes well.

Will be fitting a Dc2 Gearbox instead of the Mfactory close ratio gear sets + FD because we can't get hold of them! Sigh.

sexy
what happened to the mf gears?
thought you had some on the way?

The original ones were stolen .. and its been Very hard getting in touch with Mfactory about some more so Ive gone and bought a new S80 gearbox.

I've heard they arn't as strong as there supposed to be though. Only lasting up to around 2000 miles of racing..

Great recovery, maybe see those ITB's out on track at some point?

Yeah, I would of prefere'd different gear ratios at the moment though, but maybe in the future when I turbo this I won't have to change the gear sets :nice:.

You'll be seeing it on the track some day when its been run in.
