turbocharging the b16b, my turbo b16b build/log opinions welcome.

finally i drove the car today!!

just got done with the base map, im good up to 7500 now and WOW! major difference, my car is way faster at 7000rpm than it ever was at 9000rpm! drive fealt great, the overly loud vtect crossover is really quiet now, the car pulls, i love it, cant wait till tomorrow till we do the full tune!!

bosniacrx what was that linik for? i dont get it :(

Tilton is the company that makes super fine (and expencive) racing parts for transmision in B engines. You may be considering that company for your cluch kit, couse your engine is now much stronger then before.

I tought you may want to see what they have, that was the link about.

Anyway, are you coming with a smile out of your car? :nice: :pics: :nice:

oh yeah, tilton is awesome, we use there twin plate clutch on a lot of our evo's, i already have an uprated clutch that should be able to hold up, im making less than 300whp, but yes i am certainly leaving my car with a smile :D pics coming soon, hopefully video too!

good news: i finished my car, its fast as hell, i love it, its putting down between 275-300whp at 9.5psi i went drag racing tonight and had a lot of fun. i ran 13.4 spinning tires downt he track at 109mph!!

now for the bad news: i blew up my fuking motor! its not the turbo's fault or the tuning, as you guys know i had spun 16000rpm a while back, i believe this damaged a piston ring and it gave out under boost, i was already smoking a lot but i thought it might have been a bad turbo, so yeah.

but as we say at the garage: thats the name of the game, and it was hella fun while it lasted, who wants to front me 1500 so i can buy TJ's block?

i want to ensure everybody that the turbo did NOT blow up my motor, i had boost cut set at 11psi, 105octane gas and a lot of other saftey features, i had a bad piston ring that was going to fail sooner or later...

whats most impressive is that i drove home 65 miles on 3 cylinders blowing black smoke out the back the whole way!! i just disconnected the fuel injector and the ignition wire to cylinder #3, i went through 9 quarts of oil on the way home, i just kept an eye on my temp gauge.

now i have to build a 2.0 :nice:

wow, sorry to hear that, 13.4 is a great time!

So you will not use your b16b block? or you're going to use your b16b block and build there a 2.0 ? :wow:

Sorry to hear that. No dynos or videos for us I guess. :(

Which part of the motor blew? Considering that you were able to drive home the motor might be salvagable and rebuilt? Stroker+bore kit perhaps?

i pulled the head off today, i melted piston #3 :( id love to build a 2 liter but since my block is actually salvageable, i think i might just get some USDM itr pistons, bore/hone the block and just run it like that, this time dyno for sure! with USDM itr pistons in a b16b should give me 9.5:1 compression which is much safer.

i wish i could build it but i just dont have the money and a build shortblock is going to be at least $2600 :angry2:

I am sorry to hear that. :( At least you have made it with turbo, and I am shure you will make it beter and safer this time. :nice:

UPDATE:

ive recently aquired a b16a shortblock which i plan to build in the next few months, its easier to build the b16a block since i dont have to get custom rods, incase you guys dont know, nobody makes forged rods for b16b and custom rods cost 800!!. with the b16a i could just use eagle rods whihch are about $300 :D plus the block was free!! thank you rob!!!!!!!!

future plans:

b16a block
eagle rods
mahle 9.0-9.5 pistons
stock sleeves
BDL block guard
light hone
stock bore x stroke
new bearings
hello 350-450whp on pump gas :D

Thats crazy blinx... good work! Big passion you got there... respect

He means open header. I live on the same island as Jewel, as a matter of fact we were raised up together. We live a stone throw away from the drag strip, so we have easy access to the alot of racing. I had an ITR that did consistant 13's NA. Mods were: Hasport engine monts, Clutchmasters 4 puck sprung clutch, ACT H/Duty pressure plate, Rage Tri-Y 4-2-1 Header, 3" custom intake with velocity stack, and a v-tec controller. That combo got me doing 13.7-13.8 @ 101 mph consistantly on street tires. I would never turbocharge a CTR or an ITR, its just wrong.

man, your avatar is so similar...

man i would my friend ran a 12.4 on street tires in his turbo itr boosting only 8psi

**UPDATE**

ive been very busy with school lately so i haven't had time or money to work on my car, and then suddenly i had an idea, i figured out a way to fix my car for under $200 :nice: its not the best way to do it, but its cheap and fast, the alternative is to let my car sit until im done with school (2 years)

so my friend gave me a b16a shortblock with bad rings and here is the plan:

-stock b18a/b pistons and rings
-new bearings
thats it :)

thats my plan, im just gonna hand hone the block, change the bearings and put in factory b18a/b pistons and rings which will bring my CR down to a very turbo friendly 8.6:1, i always thought my head was milled (skimmed) as i used to detonate on 91 octane fuel when i was all motor, if thats the case my CR may be as high as 9.2 with these pistons and 11.4 when it blew up the first time which would certainly explain why it blew up so quickly.

so far the new block is completely disassembled and im just wating for the new pistons to come in the mail... ebay $75!!

wish me luck, i'll be happy to get 5000 miles out of it, this is gonna be a test motor for me, were planning to see how much abuse this set up can handle, im planning for 15psi and 300whp on pump gas from this bastard :D yes im crazy!!

Good luck with it. Make sure you take some videos before you blow da **** out of it

Awesome thread Blinx, pure inspiration and PM on its way :D

ok ok, i know i keep changing my mind here and going with different stuff, but here is the final plan, all parts been dropped off at the machine shop and should be done end of the week:

i decided to have the machine shop do everything, that way i will be sure the engine wont smoke!!

-b16a shorblock
-b18a/b pistons on b16a rods
-acl bearings
-deck/bore/hone
-assembly

now i just need a new head gasket and timing belt. :drive: hoping this motor will hold 1bar!! :nerv:

update, i picked up the shortblock from the machine shop today (this guy is FAST), hopefully everything will be in the car in a day or two!
