turbocharging the b16b, my turbo b16b build/log opinions welcome.

**update**

i had some minor set backs, bad distributor, bad injector clips, and a cracked intake manifold, but all problems have been fixed and im in the last phases of tuning the new set up, it ended up being 8.3:1 compression and its at 1bar right now, so far so good, we'll see what happens, ill post more info tonight, and get a video once its running right.

:nerv: 1 bar :nerv: :naughty:

rvm can i post videos directly onto the site? i got a video but i dont want to put it on youtube, just on this website, can i do that?

looks like its good at 1 bar, this might just be the end of this build.... unless something blows up :)

What kind of hp you think its pushing? Any Vid's?:drive:

given the low compression and conservative tune, probably 275whp aka 325bhp max. at 1 bar. i have a video but i dont want to post it on youtube, im trying to find out if i can post it directly to this site.

No my friend :( how big is it? :nono:

does rapidshare or megaupload cost money? i can email it to you :) i think... does that help? sorry im new to the video thing..

I have no email that can support more than 10 mb of mail :(

No, its free, try! :)

goddamn, this is never ending, ok so far ive run 6 11 14 18 and 26psi on the current setup, 6-18psi showd minimal gains, im guessing my intercooler is out of its efficiency range, i recenty got an apexi GT core, im going to put that on and see what it does...

OMG i put the apex intercooler on today!! its an amazing difference!! here is a pic showing the difference in size:

i raced my friend with a 390bhp mazda rx2 and beat him twice!! and his car weighs the same as mine! im very very very happy with this set up, i think i might even turn the boost down, i was at 13psi when i raced him.

blinx, do you still keep the VTEC on or u turn it off and let only the turbocharged do the revving?

Here's some tips i think may proof useful when it comes to turbocharging a Honda

Don't use the original piston of B16B, B16B's piston is designed for high-revving for NA, so it has a higher compression angle(the tip of the piston is higher than any B-series piston), so typically even if u added a much taller gasket it still wont do much help, the compression rate will still be too high.

Now, for the F20C's high compression turbocharging, its not impossible, but impossible for for the life of that engine, let it run for more 1 or 2 year and i dare say unrepairable problem will come out, but why they still do it? Cause F20C's block is much more better than those of B-series and its design for over-thousand revving so the rigidity of the block is not questionable thereby high-compression charging do make sense.

Back to the B-series, since B16B's piston are too high compression, its best you use a flat-top(if you want to retain some compression rate) or those from aftermarket thats been forged like Crowers or Eagles(those from europe) and if you consider Jap, TopFuel is the answer, these guy is the leading VTEC Turbo specialist in, if not the whole world, Japan. They've once construct a B16B turbo, by boring it to a 1.8, with compression rate of 8.5 and 1.7bar of boost, thus strengthening the whole inside of the engine, leaving only the body of the engine the only part original. the result? 185bhp 8500rpm 16.3kgm 7500rpm =- 506hp/8630rpm、 45.7kgm/7420rpm....sounds fair enough?

AND one more thing, you said that you like to keep everything inside the B16B original, that is complete wrong, as you need to do strengthen the valve retainer, spring and others so that it can withstand the force of the turbo, so basically what you did in the first place will work but wont work for LONG, its no point getting to run a B16B turbo for a day and save it in the garage for 1 year.............

looking forward to your beauty blinx, seriously, i'm also kinda into turbochargin a B16B other than B16A / B18C haha cuz is TYPE-R!!!!

vtec function still works, comes on a little earlier now, about 4800rpm. :drive:

i appreaciate the advise though i disagree with some of it, also if you read the entire thread (which i dont exepect anybody to do) you'll see i melted the b16b pistons and went with flat top pr4 pistons :) so i do agree that b16b pistons are bad for boost. and topfuel japan is nothing compared to other tuners in the world as 500hp is easy to attain, the shop i work at had customers making 700whp back in 1998 with a stock type R cylinder head and a built shortblock. and stephanie eguum makes 1200whp+ in a civic. :nerv:

i love top fuel dont misunderstand, its just that they dont make any of there products, they use all hks and apexi parts.

the shortblock is what is going to see 90% of the abuse of the turbo so i dont think you really need to upgrade the valvetrain unless you plan on revving higher or putting larger cams. ive seen 400whp on a stock b18c1 valvetrain. :nice:

hahaha mr xyz has joined the ek9.org community :nice:

yeahh!! haha..dont have a EK but i loove boosted B series...haha:clap:

....dont quote me on that...but i remember Rev valves, had "boosted" and "NA" style valves, in fact i used some Rev flat head valves for "boost" a couple of years ago...if i can remember well they look kind of black nitride stuff...dont know if theres a big diff, but i saw some old valves rotten by heat and det...
what im worried about the B blocks are the sleeves...or maybe im just picky on those... i got one friend in kentucky...whos planning to bore a stock LS block to 84mm, dont know about that but could be waaay risky to build it for boost or HI reving... is that posible and safe?

nice info xyzalvarez, I think you're from guatemala also or something like that, welcome!

well the more timing you put into the car and the more lean it runs the more power it will make, but the EGT's go through the roof espicially on a turbo car, and the valves see that abuse first. but thats all controlled by the tune :nice:

a boosted high revving 84mm stock sleeve LS is not going to last at all. i know some NA guys in japan go up to 82mm which is really really really pushing it, but to have boost and 84mm stock sleeves is just really asking for it.

i dont know if he's from there, but he lives down the street from me
