i've always intended in building my b16b engine into a good bhp figure n/a build but this last while ive been thinking that it would be a cheaper root to buy a tuned b18 with cams etc or standard k20 and put on a few bolt on mods but where would be a good place to look for one of these engines!? i dont want to turbo it and i dont want one that needs work, it must be a good healthy engine and can be dropped straight in. ive seen a few for sale but god only knows how good they are as there not in the car so i cant hear it running and i would hate to buy a bad one, all help is appreciated :nice:

Tuned k20 will get you anywhere from 250-320hp.
But IMHO, the b series engine is a much rawer engine and can take more abuse.
I stayed with B even though it would probably have been cheaper to go K.

if u intend on holding on to the car and have the budget ur better off goin k20. b18cs can be got for good money but a built one will set u back a good whack. if ur running a built b18 engine gearbox work will b needed too. personally if i wanted a built engine id wanna get it built myself. u know exactly how the engine is then

K20 all day long! a stock k20 with simple bolt ons will make the same if not more power and definitely more torque (due to the displacement) than a fully built b18 whilst maintaining reliability :)

k20 conversions are great one of my mates did a k20 turbo eg and it was amazing but to me an ek9 is a special car and was designed to have a na b-series in it, find somebody who will build you a good b16b or b18c and not rob you.

K swap will be the cheapest way to get 240+BHP, to achieve that from a 1.8 costs a lot of money and you will won't match the broad torque curve that the K series offers.

I agree K series are fun but B series makes me cream my load :D

For outright N/A power, K-series is legendary.

For a track car, its personal preference. The B-series maintain the original weight distribution between the left and right side of the front side of the car. The engine is set ideally on the left for the Right Hand drive cars. Balance is good.

The Left hand drive cars benefit from a K-swap since the engine sits on the right hand drive side.

But then again, the K20 makes more power and is 10kgs lighter than the B-series.

i think id rather the b series as well even tho a k20 ek is awesome and has better value for power.

i cant see me ever parting with the car after all the work that has been done so far so a tuned engine is definitely on the cards but i not sure what one i want lol if i do build an engine instead of buying one, the work will all be carried out by my dad and me as he is a mechanic and i no it will be done right, but when buying a tuned engine, its hard to no how good the workmanship is as there some dodgy mechanics out there who think they no everything but really dont have a notion.

so my dilemma is: 1. spending 2-3k or so on building my b16b or b18 and knowing its done right, 2. buying a tuned b18 and taking a gamble that is was done right and all will be ok, 3. the k series option with a few bolt on mods but im not sure how that will affect my insurance so thats the main reason i would stay with the b series. i dont have a certain bhp figure i want to achieve out of any of the engines, i just like a nice healthy tuned engine with a nice cam noise to go with it. :win:

If your bottom end of your engine is still okay, then i'd leave that (apart from baffling the sump and maybe changing the rings) and concentrate on building a development cylinder head with race parts.
Outright engine power in a honda is not everything. If you remove weight from the car it will also be much quicker.
Also focus on your suspension setups ;)

the rings have been changed recently mate and the pistons looked ok but i was thinking since, i might change the crank and rods on my b16b to make it b18 and then drop in the cams etc!? was thinking on using buddyclub cams as they seem to have a better power gain over all the powerband while skunk make the power at higher rpms but not many people use bc's over here. as for the weight, i only have 2 fronts seats in the car now so thats taken care of :D

could have gone K with how much i've spent, easy

but where is the fun in that? everyone is going K.......

all out N/A B18 with a short gearset is immense amounts of fun

High Comp B20 would be well cool. Not read about too mny I know of so that would be different.

What would be needed for a high comp B20??? :)

I 3rd what Steven has said, defo best being diff! :)

Steven's engine is one of the coolest ever built and works sooooo well!

A common problem with hc B20 builds seems to be the slieves letting go due to the thin liners. I'd love a beastly B18C personnely over a K-series swap.

The good part is you keep your head with a b20 block, it's pretty good value for money just make sure you use quality parts and it should be very reliable:nice:

I would love to try a closed deck b18 with a stroker kit taking it to 2 litre, there is a savage engine producing 265bhp with a similar setup, its insane.
