had a bit of free time last night so decided to put my OEM airbox back on and took off my whale pen-is lol

and my god there is some difference

the car has a lot lot less torque down the lower revs and when i gave her some stick in third i actually looked down to see why it was revving so slow as it would have usually be at 9 but was only at 8

people can badmouth J's all they want but i noticed a massive difference

if it drys up i might even go out and take a wee video of the car like last time as im sure you will all be able to see the difference because i feel it tenfold

When I have an EK9 or DC2, I want to put up a stock airbox vs modified B18c airbox with 4" CAI feed and velocity stack and the J's. I have a G-Tech Pro RR to measure. Anyone care to donate me a DC2 or EK9?

Thing is, everyone seems to have different experiences with it but nobody has a direct comparison. That makes it very hard to decide which is best (for your application).

Its a real decent piece of kit..
One of a few real power making intakes for vtec's!

j's slug , itg , topfuel powerchamber and mugen are the best around.

Nice info, would love to see a proper comparison, video would be nice too :)

I've got a J's myself, not installed it yet though! There is a lot of bad mouthing about the J's design, but at the end of the day, they are a very compitent tuning company, and wouldn't have designed it how they did if it was only going to underperform the stock air box!!!!

when we changed to the js on my mates ek9 we noticed a big difference so i totally agree

Best thing to do is have a before and after dyno read. Or videos on the same road, under same conditions but with different intakes. Butt dynos i think are easily fooled.

Best thing to do is change the filter to a spoon one. My EK actually felt slower with a HKS super mega flow filter on it. Some time when you put 'induction kits' on cars it actually drops the bhp. Im keeping my airbox and dropping a spoon filter in.

I wouldnt say thats the best thing to do, it is good, and alot of people do go for that setup, but there is a lot of good intake systems available. :nice:

It must be coz im using a filter designed for a sohc vtec and not a dohc. I will be looking fo a decent kit wen i get it turbo'd

The spoon filter is just an expensive piece of foam, can get the same thing much cheaper from a different brand.

I like my j's intake, the noise is awesome and the car seems to rev better with it on. just need to fit my heat shields around it ;)

eh? I think we should rephrase the best thing to do is 'get it tuned' They both are completely different in design.

Your last video in one of your threads, is that with the Js intake? You should post it up again :)

I would like to see the difference in them as alot of people slag them off but the j's carbon intake looks great under the bonnet compared to the standard airbox but don't wan't to change to that if i was going to lose power...mugen get good write up but very pricey anyone used this j's copy

I believe in my OEM dc2 box with cold air intake over open filters. The performance shows and my times at the drag strip speaks for itself IMO. However I can't personally comment on the j,a racing intake.

I have recently changed back to oem airbox and I'm not sure if it feels quicker but vtec crossover is very quiet might change back just to make sure it's still vtecin LOL. Is this normal for it tobe pretty quiet?

Completly normal mate. The boxed-in intakes are much quieter.

except noize j's seems to be a good intake for a light tuned b16/18 engine .
a lot of people have only good words about them.

I agree with LeeK9

I live in Gibraltar boder to border with spain, so i tend to drive alot through the paying tolls

I can sureley tell u something.......

J's intake will deffinetly reach the 8000rpm quicker!!!!!!
Give me much more torque on higher and mid range......

And one more thing the J's intake should be proud of (its loud noise which can be heard from very far away) lolol

Compared to the few runs i did before installing and the runs i did after J's deffinetly did improve...

Just need to sort out my heat shields

I recently installed this onto my ITR. I noticed that VTEC doesn't kick in as hard.... you could say its similar to i-vtec change over.

The sounds is crazy though, I've not heard it from the outside yet but i bet its pretty mental.....
