K20A - A few home truths.

Yet more drama, went to fit the DC manifold back today for another remap and...it doesnt fit! Alan had modified the exhaust on the second trip to him and I didnt know, so after a chat to him he is going to have another crack at the custom manifold, different design on the runners to hopefully sort this flat spot. I will get him to modify the DC in case the second build doesnt work either, hopefully it will. This Kswap is driving me mad.

Fcuk me man!

Fingers crossed for you it works out this time, I know how these things can drag on and drive you mad.

Ah man that sucks, this is taking ages for you,
hope things work out soon man....

fingers crossed for this, theres nothing more annoying than getting a large engine in and having endless problems

your power seems similar to my mate justins K20 dc2 with Dc sports header 70mm TB and RBC inlet,, take a look,

Thanks Olly, things will soon be sorted here. For now I have swapped the free flowing backbox for the quieter version I had Alan make up, its a fair bit quieter, if I lose a couple of horses so be it, the noise was getting to me under 3.5k, and my neighbours were probably not the biggest fans of it at 5am, sounded like a tank.

haitch;

Is your motor tuned or running stock ECU?

Any modification to the engines airflow would require a tune to run optimally. If your worrying about power dips etc, all can be fixed with tuning. :nice:

I've also got a Fully Built K20 from the US initially to install on the EK9. After a lot of thinking, I decided to put it in my wife's DC5R lol. Simply because I didnt want to go through all the trouble.

I've got a lot of parts from the EG kswap civic that I stripped out - A ceramic coated SMSP kswap header, not sure if that interests you? It has great ground clearance as the 4 primary pipes line across before merging into 2, like the current header you have.

I have Kpro Eric. Reading through this thread, anybody should be able to tell I have had a gutfull of d*cking around with headers, going back & forth to various garages! I cant afford another header, and I wouldnt buy one unless I knew 100% it fitted myself, but thanks for the offer.

Plenty I like in the US but there all unknown for fitment to me.

Hope it will all work out, and when it does, I'm sure you'll feel much better when you dont have to touch the car for a while. I know how it feels man. What you really need is a 'break'.

Has the vtec point changed? Lowering the vtec can cause that dipping problem like with many people. And strangely it might not show on the dyno, but you can feel it on the road. In my friends case, he feels the dip in 4th and 5th gear.

Running stock cams?

Had a small rip last night, definately feels good up throught the gears, looking at March trackdays now to get a full test before Spa in April.

Looks like the power delays at 5400rpm. and again around 6200rpm. But in between, theres that dip in power which is what your feeling.

Where's VTEC coming in? Couldn't you just have VTEC coming in at 6k so that there isn't a dip, just a more gradual decline before VTEC?

Those bumps you see could be caused by intake or exhaust resonance. For some reason I taught you were experiencing a flat spot at part throttle not wide open throttle?

Its at cruising on the motorway, feels like an old automatic changing gear, lurch. I dont want a dip or any decline, it will be sorted soon.

Its a very similar feeling to those Generic SPOON ECU plug in units I used to have. Plug it in and bang! Massive powerdip within 5000-6000rpm, but your graph shows quite a mild dip, not bad.

Lift the vtec point to 6000 and it should fix the problem. You can use any header and intake as long its tuned to match especially on a stock engine, so I dont think thats the problem.
