Getting old?

I like words written out and sentence structure and punctuation. Run on sentences are a pain.

I don't think there should be any rules on text talk though. Or tard-talk if you want to call it that.
I only care if you really, really, can't understand what they are trying to get across, or if there's just way too much of it.

location thing????????????? no. if u logged on to any irish site you'd realise its not used or tolrated on any of them

By "location" I meant as in a kind of accepted local dialect.....didnt explain myself too clearly, but i think you understood:nice: Wasnt trying to be prejudiced against all the Irish fellas.

aww josh dont be like that. i said i dont always use them words... and when learning a language u learn how that culture/country pronounce their letters to help u say the words. i understand where ur coming from with the "sum" meaning but the rest r pretty straight forward... and u dont even know me sayin i havnt learnt languages? im not fluent in any since they aernt used in my every day life lol. dont try to judge any1 u dont know. found that sorta ignorant but funny that u even bothered to write me a reply lol

Hi mate,

Although I was responding to your post, it wasn't directed solely at yourself! It was directed at everyone who chooses to use 'txt' speak on here. Don't get offended, agreed I don't know you well at all, but I was not being ignorant????

My post was a general response to this thread, putting across my opinion of the matter, which i stand by. Just because I choose to answer with reference to your post in no way renders me ignorant, and I fail to see how it's funny either? :nono:

I have nothing against you WAZ, since I don't even know you! I was simply saying that I think it is inconsiderate of those members who choose to use text speak on an international forum where words can be easily misconstrued, and sometimes be impossible to translate.

I again disagree with what you personally say about 'learning a language', although indeed you do generally learn about their culture, and of course how to pronounce words and letters, this in no way makes it easier to differentiate words such as people from ppl......the English language is difficult enough with words such as their, there, they're which are all pronounced the same, without throwing 'new words' that do no exist such as der into the mix.

When I said you probably don't speak any other language fluently, it was a generalisation, I do not either, and turns out I was right :p lol

And in reference to your initial post, stating you find spelling/punctuation mistakes more difficult to read/more annoying that text speak; why do you consistently post with grave punctuation mistakes? In some cases, with no punctuation whatsoever.

I don't think JOSH meant anything personally by what he said mate!:secret:

Thanks JIMBOB, indeed I did not mean anything personally by my response! :nice:

Seen more new members use text talk which I don't understand let alone others who's English isn't great. Is there a rule about using text talk on here like other forums?

Been quite a few threads lately with some absolute rubbish in them, my english isnt great but, here are some classics from a recent thread in the exhaust section...

wat - what?
de - the?
der do - there though?
netin - nothing?
wit - with?
gettin - getting?
any1 - anyone?

What a load of absolute sh*te, I must be getting old :p

My personal favourite - 'der do'

all the text speak on here is doing my head in too!!!

my english isn't great at all, so the text talk makes it harder to me too understand some things. but lately i have seen a lot less text talk to be honest.so thanks to the people trying to wright a better english:nice:

No what you mean:D

Snatch7.jpeg

Dont know if ye are trying to be funny but i havent seen any irish lads on here using it yet sounds to me like predjudice tans as usual

To be honest I have noticed alot of it recently and yes a fair few of the people if i remember where irish.

It not predjudice its just the way it is.

None of the Main Irish users like yourself have been using it, its a few of the new guys the fact they happen to be irish is proberbly just coincedence i know a few english people who use it on MSN etc. Does my head in !

i CANNOT BELIEVE people use OV instead of OF...

Its the same amount of bloody letters!!!!

Oh and...Do you like Dags?

We should have a filter that changes what you say to something stupid when you use text talk like on crx uk,anyone a member on there?
I am and find it hilarious when someone writes ur insteads of your and it comes out with stuff like: i'm a total cock who has no grasp of the english language or i love the cock, lol.
People soon get the idea when they are made to look like idiots and never use text talk once they've been told whats going on.
also if you write pm'd on there it comes out with,i'm an attention whore and thought i'd tell the world, lol.
They don't swear on there either they have names of crisps for swear words like nik nak (s**t),cheesy wotsit (f***),you get the idea.:)

Lol that sounds amazing

In the past I've posted on my local club forum (which doesn't tolerate any text type) about the poor standard of writing on here - it says something when non-native English speakers are better at communicating in English than supposed native speakers!

As far as writing things like wit, any1 and u - are people really so busy they don't have the time to type the full word? I think it's just lazy. People wouldn't write that in a university exam paper, work email or letter to their granny, so what's the excuse for using it here?

I'm 33 so perhaps that's why it bugs me so much!

Cheers,
Alex
