Hi guys this has probably been posted many times before but i'm struggling to find a tyre that i'm happy with. I've had Toyo Proxes4 on my EK4 and my EK9 has had Bridgestones GIII far to hard slid all over the place but nice sidewall stiffness, changed those today to Toyo T1R's... Not impressed  very soft sidewalls i'm running pressures of 40 psi f and 36 psi r they are that soft and squidgy... Good grip and track nicely th bridgestones where pulling me all over the road.

So my question to you is what tyres are you using what do you recommend i wanted Toyo R888 but cost and everday road tyre makes these a little unpractical. I'm after high grip stiff sidewall with arround 8,000 mile life span.

Also i went from 195/55/15 to 195/50/15 and they look bloody tiny on the car  Can i fit 205/50/15 with no problems? Will give me a bit of height back and more rubber on the tarmac.

You opinions would be very much appreciated.

EK9 owners only please.

I know you said EK9 only, but just thought I'd reccomend Hankook RS2's, a few members on here use them on their 9's, I use them on my EJ8, and Dixon used to use them all the time on his DC2. (A lot of my friends use them on their DC2's aswell...to the point that have now sold out in the country in most sizes......4 month lead time from rarerims!)

Good tyres, very sticky! Basically a track tyre compound with a fast road tread.

I am looking for a stiffer side wall mainly i haven't herd much about these Hankooks which put me off buying them. I think my suspension setup is showing up the tyres that i'm putting on. lol

Toyo 888.

These are actually unbelievable. With these tires i find no need to change the OEM suspension set up.

Car handles superb

go potenza or advan

or i always seemed to like toyo's

they are cheap and offer very good dry grip and the sidewalls are pretty stiff but not to stiff as you want a bit of flex for cornering

If you are going to run semi-slicks like R888's and can afford them, I'd say go for the AD048's instead, I've heard much better reccomendations concerning them over the 888's.

My vote goes for Hankook RS2's, when I had my EK9, the car handled very well, even better than the re01 tires

They are damn good tyres aren't they! :nice:

I know you say you haven't heard much about them mate, but that's because there are only 2 places selling them in the UK, Camskill, and Rare Rims, and the latter have only just started stocking them a few months ago!

Speak to haitch, or Dixon, or anyone on itr-dc2, they come very reccomended and I love them to bits! Livvy was going to buy my wheels off me just for the RS2's lol!

A048s are the king semi-slick..
Friend had these on his ek9 with oem suspension and 1way diff...CRAZY GRIP!
Toyo t1-r's are really soft IMO , as in sidewall

Can i run the 205's on stock rims?

Keep the opinions coming guys.

I wouldn't recommend a 205 on the stock 6" wide wheels, it works but some people HATE the feel (jugbugz). Maybe you should just get a cheap track dedicated set of wheels, like some 15 or 16x7 Kosei K1's, and then put track dedicated tires on those?

But as far as a street/track tire with a very stiff sidewall, I recommend the Falken Azenis RT615. It's cheap and faster than the Hankook RS2 around the track.
There are also tires I haven't tried like the Dunlop Direzza Z1 Star Spec and the Kuhmo XS, both in the same league as the Falken and Hankook.

Of course, the Toyo 888, Advan A048, and Nitto NT01 are going to be more expensive, wear more, and grip more than the street/track tires mentioned above. These are the next step up R compounds.

I have Yokohama Prada spec 2's on my ek9 Type R their brilliant in the dry and racin but aint that great in the wet but i think their a good tyre anyway

No brainer IMO!

RE010's FTW. Still a great tyre despite being "old" & the belief that newer designs "MUST" be better...:secret:

(Apologies for not being an EK owner:D:angry2:)

I think you will struggle to find a good performance tyre to last 8k mate, tyre wear is the sacrifice, 888' & AO48 will not last long at all and they are not cheap. Im with Dino, best to have a 15x7 if you want to run 205's, but its not necessary on the road imo.
Cant believe you went for the T1R?! As you know RS2 for me, or if you can get them AD07 - but even rarer (again not tried any Bridgestones).
Better feel with the 50's but they do look smaller, and the biggest difference - check out MF calculator with 50' & 55's.

Those tires are expensive, more scarce, and wear even quicker than your average 200 wear rating RT615 or RS2. It's a good street tire because it's grippy and has a more rain worthy tread, but there are such faster and track worthy tires out there for less money.
Most street/track tires worth your time these days have an asymmetrical tread with large tread blocks on the outside. That one example alone makes tires like the Kuhmo XS or Falken RT615 better.

In fairness, anyone who is a track regular really should be looking at a spare set of wheels shod with R888's or A048's IMO.....:nice:

They are infinitely superior on track to any "street" tyre...

I still maintain the 010's are great for fast road use...

My RE01R's were SHOCKING and i mean seriously bad in the wet.

Toyo proxes T1r are Terrible all round, even when at temperature they still cant grip the road. My budget Yokos were better than the Toyo's

I am now running hankook RS2 and so far seem to be good in both wet and dry, Pretty Noisy though but if that doesnt bother you then they seem to be good!

imo RE010's are "ok", they are good in the dry but cold and wet conditions they are seriously bad....

RS2's for me in 205/50 on standard wheels and they are awesome, very good in the wet too :)
