im having a hard time deciding what to do with my engine, to start things off im aware not many people like the idea of supercharging a Honda, especially a b16b,im looking for some power gains but im not going all out top speed or anything like that, im also aware that many of you like to turbo your cars, (this is my daily driver :)) )

well my question is what is better to do? stoke the b16b or supercharge it (with a jackson racing supercharger/ vortech supercharger)

yes I know know the b16b is a high compression motor, and im aware if i do get boost of any kind it will be little.

if i were to stoke it, which combo would be the best to stoke it to a 1.8l? has anyone stoke there b16b to 2.0? how much would that cost too

either way, after stoking the motor, will i need to tune it to make it efficient? i read blinx thread about stroking but he never mention a tune at all , so im wondering about that,

oh yeah what gains will i see on either, and which one would be faster and funner ( would ask the reliability question but i guess its only reliable with a good tune)

which one out of the two i mention is cheaper all said and done? (installation either by yourself or shop/buying the kit/tuning)

any hidden cost i should be aware of too like how much money is it for a tune anyways?

please help, as this is the only place i trust asking about what i should do because this website is like the only website that has great info for the b16b motor:dance:

Hey mate, personally i'm not a fan of superchagers. I think they are way to expensive for the gains what you get and they just generate a **** load of heat.

Have you thought about going turbo ?

as mentioned in my pm`s supercharging a b16b is a bad idea...

stroke it to 1.8 thats what my plan is in the winter (i hope)!

Turbo or N/A tuning > Supercharging.

Have been out in a supercharged B16B EK9 and I wasn't very impressed...

My mates b16b EG with JRSC with thicker headgasket makes circa 230bhp and certainly isnt shy.

it's definately the wrong engine 2 super charge or turbo, compression is to high. Personally i would love to try a supercharger but from what i've heard the quality of the bolt on chargers available is pretty poor

again this thread isnt about turbo charging.... all i am asking is that for the money use to stoke the engine, wouldn't it be as much to just put in a supercharger?

when do you stoke the engine to 1.8l, is a tune require?

when its all said and done and the money spent which one will have the better gains and will live longer with a good tune(which i still dont know how much it will cost American money),

Well, if you like reliability go for stroking...don't think a SC'd B16b likes a whole day of hammering on the track for example.

Fit a B18 bottom end, keep you B16B pistons, Hondata S300 tune and your laughing! :)

If you asked this question on the Swedish Honda forum the answers would be the opposite

I vote for Supercharger

I have tried Jacsson racing and im currently driving my B16a whit a Pro charger kit

My engine is completely stock and i got 281bhp, on a bad street tune

Yeh so would i with a b16a. Compare the b16b pistons to the b16a and you'll see why.

I'll stick to what i've always said, the b16b pistons are not good for any type of forced induction.

I vote supercharged stroker.

Well someone had to didn't they. :D

What about saving up a few more pennies and stick a k20 in there and sell your b16b to make some money back?

a k20 is probably $6000 ( i live in the us) all said and done, and there are few mods in order to keep little stuff like ac, and powerstreeing, yes both could be done but the k20 is too new and too pricey as of right now

i like the b16b motor (had it for 8 years now) and i bought it for how different it was even tho it gets dog on alot even though they have never driven one and it surprises people.

i just want to switch it up a bit, im trying not to go all over board and built a fast car, just add a little more fun to my daily :nice:
