And this is all just a myth. A tuning company tested 10 manifolds all on the same dyno and the result where all over the place. They tried 4-1 and 4-2-1 configurations and the myth that 4-1 gives better top and 4-2-1 better torque and mid was all bolloxs. They tested manifolds from spoon dc ect ect and the result didn't show any pattern. For example My japspeed 4-2-1 made more power than my mates who was running a DC 4-1 both with i dentical set ups! I really must try and find this article. I do not understand why every1 on here belives 4-2-1 to be better?

It's not just about 4-2-1 and 4-1 pipes... Theres so much testing and engineering in headers which shows in the price. The diamter, bends and lengths etc etc all effect flow. It's also possible that a 4-2-1 header can make more top end power than a 4-1. But when we talk about the strengths and weaknesses of 4-1 and 4-2-1, it means the basic theory. Brands like TODA and Hytech have engineered their 4-2-1 headers to better their own 4-1 header and with bonus more torque at lower and mid range. Thats why you pay $1000-$1400 for it.

If you buy some cheap ass ebay headers, 90% chance that your stock headers perform better. Why? Because of engineering from the factory. Anyone can just weld up pipes together.

REAL race headers are 4-2-1 and make more power, ive always said this...

I understand what your sayin and i agree with it. But i'm stating what an atricle had showed me when they tested a load. Also yes cheap headers are not as good but to make the assumption that they are crap is a silly in my opinion. I've dyno'd 3!!!! (with different B16's) And seen gains over stock on all! its not as restrictive SIMPLE. i've put big money else where. I do not see the point paying another £500-£700 for a few measly extra BHP from a 1.6? When i can get similar results from a cheaper mani. I expect 9 manis are much more free flowing than UK cars.

If your lucky, those cheaper ebay items could have replicated the top brands, thats why it could make power. The only renovate, not inovate.
 
:nice:sorry to say this but japspeed are crap, my mates has cracked just after a year on his eg coupe. So i have pointed him in the 5zigen direction as not much different in price:nice:

For how much they cost you get very good quality and fair enough it snapped but i know some 1 who snapped a spoon race manifold! Enough said. People have budgets and you can still get a decent ammount of equipment/goodies at cheaper prices. I'm not saying i wouldn't buy a better manifold but i know that money can easily be better spent else where. Japspeed are cheap s*@t but they are very good quality for the £99 that it cost me and my EK4 is running near on 180bhp and my EG6 also ran 178bhp dyno proven and that was an EBAY car through and through untill i learn't more and spent a **** load on spoon stuff for the 4. If the right mani comes along cheap second hand i'm sure i'll upgrade. But jesus people broaden you horizons a lil.
 
im with u ijwhiteman, i dont think half they headers out there are worth there money for the gains that you get. i to run a japspeed mani the top end power is awsume on them its a 4-1 i have and with a decat induction kit and ek9 cat back i can pull away from ek9's amd on the 1/4 ep3s dont even come close to my ek4 and thats them running exhausts that have cost them over £1000. ok i know they aint as good as likes of toda spoon but the are alot better than oem and for £99 they are a good manifold well made for the price
 
lumek4: i still can figure out how you can pull away from ek9s and ep3s. Please enlighten me as i have a few friends and family that have ek4s and they dont come close to overtaking me.

ok i will need to get all my vids together and get them posted of me beating ek9's and ep3's and its not just one were u can say it was a lucky race its been a few iv beat now.

Thats is impressive but haven't you done a few other bits like cams??? I can give standard tegs a bit of a run for there money especially on the twistys.
 
I had an ek4 jordan which had a similar spec to your ek4 and i drew with a standard one from fastjapcars Duncan.
Im not saying your lying, its just i find it hard to believe seeing as the ek9 is lighter than the ek4 and more powerful. Are you sure you're not just ALOT better than your friends at shifting?:p
 
LOL i fine it hard to belive a mildly modded ek4 can pull away from an ek9 let alone a ep3 ........,to put it simple how can a 180bhp modded ek4 vti pull away from a 185bhp ek9 which is lighter than a ek4 anyway ???????????????

my mate had a ek4 that was stupid quick for a b16a2, could give my itr a good run, mainly because the b16a2 was well beat.... slightly slack bottom end... lower friction... faster revs.:shocked:lol. kept on going tho.
