Talking about gearbox's mine has J4D stamped on it, wich with a little help from a member on hear i found this out!
1st - 3.23 - 40mph
2nd - 1.900 - 68mph
3rd - 1.360 - 95mph
4th - 1.034 - 125mph
5th - 0.787 - 164mph
F/D 4.4

But the speed's indicated hear dont seem to mach up with what my 9 run's!
But on where there is a barcode on our box's mine starts with S80!
So i check for this info!
1st - 3.23 - 37mph
2nd - 2.105 - 56mph
3rd - 1.458 - 81mph
4th - 1.034 - 115mph
5th - 0.787 - 151mph
F/D 4.785

So this has got my thinking that my gearbox is the S80 with the 4.785 F/D!
Anyone else got an opinion on this from whatching my vid????

But EK9dan if i were you i would use your EK9 S4C box as it has more potential in the long run by changing to a 4.7 or 4.9 F/D:nice:

if you knew your speed on the rollers at a certain rpm in 4th gear, and stated your tyre size it would be easy enough to calculate your ratios/fd:nice:

numbers/codes on casings of second hand boxes dont always add up with whats inside, i found 4.78 fd + cusco diff inside a second hand box:p
 
Jimbob is your gearbox a S80 NE3(98 SPEC4.78 final) or a S80 4HJD(96 SPEC4.4 final which is exactly same as ek9 S4C box) ?

4700rpm @ 60mph
6300rpm @ 80mph

looking at this, providing you have 195 50 15??

it would appear you have a 4.785 f/d and your 4th is 1.107 (4000rpm=52 mph, 4700rpm=61mph, 6300rpm=82mph):nice:

chances are 5th is 0.848.

so looks like you have a 96 itr box with aftermarket or 98 spec f/d, possibly the best all round set up.

Ime going to be doing a high comp b18c with a set of jun type 3 cams when the weather gets warmer for my ek9. I carnt wait the only problem is ime going to be to scared to drive it :nerv:

some one gave me a b18c6 bottom end recently, unfortunetly its spun a big end bearing, and the bores are a bit rusty, after seeing jimbobs figures i'm thinking perhaps i should do something with it:)
 
Check the crank for being out of round or taper on the journals and if its still ok then build it. Otherwise get an LS crank. :nice: I had a bit of free time this afternoon so I put my car on the dyno and run it up to see what power im making, im only running it on the wastegate because of my rad still leaking so 9.2si peak = 247whp. I miss the extra 130hp.

only had a quick look at it when i got it, the journal looked quite rough, and had bits of the shell stuck to it:angry: not sure if one of the mains is damaged as well,

the ls crank may be the way forward then:nice:

oh and the guy had lost two of the rods and pistons some how! but still, gives an excuse to think about a re bore with some higher comp pistons:)

got to let the bank balance recover first:((

what boost do you usually run to make the extra 130hp?

16psi = 378whp...but with the coolant leak on the rad, the extra heat makes it want to escape hence sticking to low boost untill i find time to sort it properly

I have not had chance to wind it all the way round due to not having bonnet pin's till next week, but im sure ill get chance soon! On a track that is!:secret:

yep thats right, the 0.848 is the same as the stock ek9 5th, i'm putting a box together at the moment with the exact same set up, just waiting on some bits.:)

Seems a bit confusing now...

Jimbob: I looked at your video again, I'm sure you have the 4.4FD 96spec box. I remember seeing your first video as well and commented that it was a 4.4. My 3rd gear hits 140-142kmph @ 9000rpm which is nothing close to yours 152kmph @ 8600rpm. Your 1st gear hits well around 65kmph, which is higher than mine. With a 4.78 installed, you should be even more happier. Nothing to bog down about, its good youve got the 96spec box which is same as B16B.

This is your old video vs my old video(I dont want mine to look that bad lol) You'll see the difference even though I have 9100rpm. My car at that time had these mods;

4.78FD
Js racing intake
Js ECU
5zigen dented header
2.36" system with a 2.36" muffler + 2.25" restrictive inbuilt silencer ring. :angry:

oh wells, its now much better with toda, Comptech, and restrictor removed. A simple cut mod on the muffler gave me 2.5" at the tip. I also found out the muffler was a tapered design giving 2.36" at entry and 2.5 at tip. Just need tuning now... (Hey Will, when you coming to AU for a holiday? :D)

What I meant was, get the B18C and keep the B16B box. Then swap the Final Drive over and you'll end up having B16B gears + 4.78FD. This is what I have as well as many others. Its considered to be the best All round setup for the street, yet its still very good for the track and drags. Balanced :)

Another way is keeping the 98spec b18C box and installing a 4.9FD. But this wont be as balanced. The first 3 gears will pretty much burn up your tyres with 200whp but 4th and 5th should feel good.

apparently a fair bit.

i was going to swap over to a 4.9 i while back and the guy that was going to do it for me down my way said a few things needed to be changed along with the final drive...........

There was a parts list of things needed with it. About 5 things if i remember correctly.
