Help keep this place clean!

I have 530 posts on here and i've been on here for nearly 3 years, there are idiots who post ridiculous times in a matter of months etc needlessly and is pure shite, thats what msn etc is for this is not a social networking site.

text talk needs to be filtered out.

i think we should also start telling people to use the search button.

I'm with you all the way, I have done exactly that in the last couple of posts I've made.

A point to bear in mind though, whilst I have been suggesting people use the search function, I've also been answering their question (where possible), since more often than not they're fairly new and they deserve a chance or two.

I think if we start responding with 'Use the search function' and not much else, this place is gonna turn into the likes of some other unfriendly, Honda oriented forums (no names mentioned).

i know what your saying and maybe would be polite to also add to reply with using the search button.
i know people are are'nt supposed to know everything but sometimes the question and answer has been posted days before and all someone has to do is look in the relevent section.

I think under the "New Users" section of the forum there should be some kind of guide line for newbie's to follow. Perhaps a explanation of the search feature and how to use it effectively while stating clearly to use it before posting a question thread.

@Blinx maybe you could look into this if you think its a worth while idea...

If the admins give a go-ahead on this I don't mind putting a little something together...

Maybe the forum should also think about looking into using some kind of logging in procedure, has anyone else noticed that there are sometimes 15-20 members and 100 lurkers on here.

Thank you for your help blinx9900 :blinx:

I've erased a lot of stuff also, and the limit of posts to sell increased from 50 to 100, and I'm working to restrict this forum based on user age on the forum.

Thanks to all the users for their help also! :)

ive always used the search button here..when i cant find what im looking for thats the time i start to ask questions...

good move you guys..:nice:

oh yeah, can i suggest, can we put a chat box here? but with strict rules "no selling of any kind"
because i have read somewhere here that, that it is the main reason why it has been removed.
my idea is by putting a chat box new people would not make a thread directly if their questions are very simple or nooby question(i know i had some),by having a chat box they can ask directly to the people present at that time in the chat box..then if the mods would think that the question is a big topic or it would lead to a very nice discussion that would help some in the near future, then the mods would advice the person who questioned the question to make a thread about it instead..

:)

I know this could be very hard to put into action but just a taught I had tonight so said I would say it..

But would it be possible to make it that you had to introduce yourself before you could post anything else in any other sections..And once you post your introduction maybe get a pm with just a short amount of helpful tips, such as search before you ask and use the search area and about the post count before selling..

I know all that could be impossible to do but maybe someone good with computers could work it out..Complicated I know but just said I would voice it.

There was a chat a long time ago, but people started to use it to sell stuff and ask questions, that why I decided to remove it :((

Seriously thinking about this. :nice:

For once i agree, in fact i was thinking even having 3 mods just for the for sale section and maybe come up with some rules for the FS area, just some things i thought of:

-obviously the post limit
-no more than 3 threads per user
-try to keep the respect
-no linking lower priced parts on someone elses thread
-must post price
-must post location
-etc...

I'd like to put my name forward for this! I have been a moderator and still am on southwestcivics.co.uk. It would be an honour to contribute to ek9.org and i'd take the role very seriously.

gonna talk to rvm about some things, maybe we can have an open enrollment?

Mate, please don't get confused. The comment above was in relation to another user who posted in your thread. I would've thought that was glaringly obvious if you go back and read through it.

Nobody is gonna have a problem with people asking genuine questions, that's what this place is for!! It's those with bad attitudes, fraudulent intentions and those that just ask without looking (searching) first, thereby making this place more cluttered and less of a nice place to be that this thread relates to.

LOL, yeah thanks for making it clear.

what about you have to be registered for 6 months, as well as 100 post until you can sell.

i like the idea of limiting amount of threads started each day.

so if you are a serious enthusiast, there is no reason to sell something as soon as you sign up and there's plenty of infos available to read.

I appreciate the seriousness of what is going on here but Ian, seriously? You crack me up!!

However he would be a good moderator!!! :)
