Heat wrap yes or no?

The thing about exhaust wrap is that the manifold begins to deteriorate and rust after 1-2 years...even if its stainless, because any kind of tape/fabric releases chlorine in small amounts when heated, this in turn eats away at the manifold.
besides exhaust wrap is an absolute eyesore!!

if you want to insulate your manifold, do it properly with a non-paint spray on ceramic coating....no problems 5 years down the line :nice:

This is really my concern in regards to exhaust wrap. Eventually the manifold will deteriote.

TBH the deterioration dut to chemicals released from the fabric, I can only see this being an issue with very cheap heatwrap

Expensive stuff is expensive for a reason, contains no fibreglass/nasty stuff and is far more efficiant

Imho it's kinda dangerous to assume a product is good just because it's expensive.

I'm not just assuming that it's good because of the price tag, I know it's good.........

Thermotec actually put a fair bit of R&D into their products if you check out their site, also they state that their product is fibreglass free etc

I was just stating that the price of said heatwrap REFLECTS the R&D and thus quality of the product

tbh with you though, from experience with aftermarket car parts, more expensive items USUALY are of better quality and outlast cheap items. hence the phrase "you get what you pay for"

do you have any documents on this statement? This is something i too have heard but never seen with my own eyes.

Firstly do you really believe all what companies say on their websites??? They want to sell you something and will do whatever possible to do that.

Secondly just because it doesnt contain fibreglass or ''other nasties'', still doesnt mean its good for the system. Anyway, from a theoretical point of view, pure fibreglass should be better than fabrics because fibreglass doesnt give out any Cl- because it is only made up of SiO2, Na2CO3, CaO, MgO and Al2O3.

I'm with you on this one!

I work for a manufacturing company, we sell a "Premium" product and the R and D exceeds our competitiors by miles!

You get what you pay for! END OF :thanks:

lol.. i do believe you get what you pay for!

i see heat wrapping the manifold is a simple and effective mod. never got round to fitting 1 but will probably try 1 soon. :))

also heard headers life span is shortend by heat wrapping but believe its still worth it :nice:

DO IT DO IT DO IT!!!

HEAT WRAP FTW!!! Highly recommended car feels very nicely different. Smoother, crisper, seems to pull much harder through the vtec and throttle response is greatly improved! Love it!

Just what a pain in the arse to fit!!! Many many cut fingers from those stupid metal zip ties!

i'd agree with this too!

Combined with other cooling efforts it's worthwhile for track use to keep temps as stable as possible

x2 :)

btw: which would be the best to go for? as mentioned above to saty away from ebay ones.. :blinx:

Thermo-tec cool it 2" 50ft.

Perfect! Went for a blast today and could hold my hand on the manifold after! Incredible stuff rated to 2000 deg F

im lucky in that if my header had failed due to wrap id have got a replacment or had it repaired due to beleif in high quality from designer but as said 99% wont, a high quality header shouldnt deteroirate quick and unlikely to fail (tonnes of hype on net and articles but ive yet to see someone actually show one fail due to wrap), fair enough if its cheaper header then its expected

i considered getting mine coated at place not far from me that does this but cost was about £150-175 iirc

wrapping cost me just under £100 (about 65ft of 2" wrap, steel ties and protective spary from thermo tec), i destroyed the under section within 2 days of fitting due to header sittin so slow and kiss with speed bump which really pissed me of

anyway, in future ill prob end up gettin it coated as wrapping is also pain to do although nopt as effective as wrapping

bump!
how is everyone's headers keeping up since they have been wrapped?
