Hi, just got my manifold and was wondering about heat wrap does it do anything?

the theory is that it keeps the heat in the manifold, hence giving a better exhaust scavenging effect. and also helps to keep engine bay temp down.

it working or not....i have no idea on the road., maybe on a track.

i wrapped my manifold before, but this time I didn't wrap mine because i simply couldn't be bothered....:nice:

in theroy it works but its properbly something you want to do if you track your car

lol, well the heat wrap is alredy on mine but not sure if i like it. cheers though:nice:

i done mine, think i noticed throttle response being a bit smoother as with aftermarket manifold you have no heat shield and would increase air intake temp.i think its worth doing and looks cool!

if it is already on then i would leave it. it is not doing harm

One question, If you wrap the exhuast with thermal wrap, where will the heat go?

It'll dissipate to the same place, it just keeps the heat in from the manifold so less heat is released to the surroundings than without it.

JDM 101 - If you wrap the manifold then true enough all you are doing is shifting the heat further down the exhaust system which as mentioned has it's advantages

-Cooler engine bay temps which help towards lowered intake temps

-More heat contained in the manifold, hotter gasses travel faster so increased velocity should help at higher revs

-If you wrap the WHOLE manifold then you reduce heat transfer between the manifold and sump reducing oil temps

Just make sure you use decent heatwrap though to make it worthwhile.... Cheaper fibreglass stuff will deteriorate and isn't that efficient

I used 50 feet of cool-it thermotec stuff, it's rated up to 2000 deg F. To give you an idea of how good it is, a mate ran the same stuff on his car and could get out and grab the primaries after a hard run :nerv:

I fitted my manifold today and as soon as i drove the car it felt better and im loving it, best thing i have done so far, i have a decat and 5ziegen cat back, what shll i do next?

Wtf, that sounds like one hell of a difference! I can imagine it would actually free up power if intake temps will be 5-10 degrees colder and if that much extra heat can be used for increased scavenging effect. Won't be 10hp, but 1 or 2hp would be a great gain from such a minor modification.

beneficial mod, reasons mentioned above

quality varies greatly, cheap ebay stuff is near pointless (doesnt actually do job its supposed to)

mid level stuff like thermo tec etc is what most use and ok (i cant hold onto it after good drive but can touch for sec)

high level stuff costs about 2 or 3 times more but simply amazing, you can hold onto header after good drive but due to cost hardly anyone uses it, not actually sure what companies make this

once you factor in metal zip ties and bits like protective spray total adds up

100% true

Can confirm that it smokes like mad and smells horrendous when you start the car for the first time :wow:

Haha yeah I noticed that too! I wrapped mine, then took it out for a quick drive to the shops, think people thought my car was broke when I parked with smoke coming through the front grill etc haha

Me too, little cloud of smoke for the first few drives.

Helps to keep heat away from the rad too.

The thing about exhaust wrap is that the manifold begins to deteriorate and rust after 1-2 years...even if its stainless, because any kind of tape/fabric releases chlorine in small amounts when heated, this in turn eats away at the manifold.
besides exhaust wrap is an absolute eyesore!!

if you want to insulate your manifold, do it properly with a non-paint spray on ceramic coating....no problems 5 years down the line :nice:

Correct heat wrap is very good, as stated already. [once the smoke clears, lol]
Hondata heat shield for the intake manifold should be your next investment and a CAI if you don't have one already.
