ek9 vs evo9 MR... strange thing happended...

A modded EK9 should stay with an Evo up to 60/70 in a straight line but then would lose out to the turbo, on a tight twisty track with no big straights it would be closer (drivers being equal blah blah).

Yeh but I was gaining in 3rd which is around 140kmph(85mph?)

I was very surprised too... unless the EVO thought it didn't need to use full revs
Hammer,Nail,Head!!i think you have solved this by yourself mate,i raced ek9s before i bought mine and my celica just made a joke of the ek9 in a straight line:shocked: my celica would of been similar power to this evo??320bhp??....he wasnt trying mate,or else he couldnt drive it properly because he should of had you for breakfast....now if it was in the twistys id understand as thats why i bought my ek9 because of its excellent handling:woot:

In the situation I was in, i think he was using full revs...and AUS models only have 280bhp/206KW. yeh if it had 320bhp then I'd be long gone. lol

sorry mate, didnt realise it only had 280bhp so thats about say...230 at the wheels and about 440kgs heavier so maybe you did ok:nice:

:D In AUS, Evos and STIs stock standard with 276bhp only makes 215hp @wheels. This is because of AUS altitude, I that know in the upperhalf of the equator, you should be seeing 10% more than us @ wheels. But yeh, the experience was  :nice:

If you work out the wheel power to weight ratio the ek9 is about the same as the evo.
280bhp less about 30% for transmission loss and all the extra weight of 4wd system and heavy car. Compared to 185bhp less 15% and light weight body and drive train. They are quicker on the track but not as much as you would think.

I had a do with two of my mate's last nite!

one has a 270bhp escort turbo and the other a stock pulsar running full boost!

I took them to a road were there are about 1/4 strights broke up with 3 roundabout's and a final stright of about a mile!

we all started with a rollin start, quite close coming into the first roundabout:wow: but aft that i was just pulling away from them both:shocked: by the time i came out of the last roundabout i was atleast 10 car lengths ahead of both of them!:clap: they only started gaining on me when i hit the top speed limiter:angry2: (still in km)

I think they were as shocked as i was, as i though they would have both had me!

I LOVE MY EK9 :bow::bow::bow::bow:

Dunx: good point there! I didn't realise that the evo's P/W ratio was simlar to the 9.

Jimbob-EK9: I totally understand your feeling :nice: LOL

I've suprised a few people in my 9 aswell, one of them was my mates audi A3 1.8T, RR'd at 238BHP, I stayed with him on the straights, and was trying to get by him on the roundabouts! Athough its always an advantage chasing, as you can out brake them, and better their lines etc

look how old this thread is....

I had a wee race a race a few months back with a new focus RS,
Side by side on a duel carriage way, round a roundabout and I floored it in 3rd out the roundabout started pulling out a lead, into 4th and still gaping him, into 5th and he started catching very quickly. I was doing over 135mph so god knows how fast he was going, 150-155?
B16b/B18c will have just about anything on the road for acceleration up through the gears.
Big turbo cars have the advantage top-end.
The look on their faces is priceless when you fly past in a £2500 14 year old civic. LOL

BMW M3 standing start to 110mph I was pulling away after that he started to come back at me. :) I was very pleased with myself. :)

To be honest guys its the reasons above either we have 9s or want one and thats all you need acceleration to until 130 as anything beyond is pointless on the road. ek9 all the was
