ok, a strange thing happended on last Sunday morning as I was heading to church...

I was behind a stock standard EVO 9 MR at the lights awaiting to turn left. Since I've just installed my CF bonnet, I was guessing that the evo had noticed that this aint just some ordinary civic.

I was also eagar to see how my ek9 stacks up against the evo.

So as the light went green, he slowly turns left and onto the right lane, and just about when his car was aligned straight after the turn he floors it (but don't think he hit the redline in 1st gear), at this point of time, I was 45 degrees before having my car aligned straight on the lane and floored it right there, at this point I noticed the evo isn't holding back, as it started getting away from his head start, I hit 8600rpm forgetting that I had an extra 500rpm left to rev but forgot, straight into 2nd gear, the evo's stretch had come to a stop and was matching the evo's acceleration by 9100rpm, and into 3rd gear before the redline, guess what happended?................................................................................... I was gaining on the evo:wow:..................................:shocked::shocked:

Man, thats impressive. Whats the spec on your ek9 appart from the j's racing intake?

Jugbugz, despite the Power FC, I'm not sure If you already have camshafts installed, do you also have lightweight wheels?

man, I'm shocked myself! I even got 5% leak in compression... :(

D'janiero: custom 2.25 inch exhaust with 5zigen headers, J's Intake, Power FC stock Apexi mapping for B16B, I set redline to 9100rpm and vtec 5700rpm, Tein SS, and running on 98RON with octane booster, pretty much stock B16B.

Manos: camshafts? not that I know of... I got stock wheels...

I do remember whooping a 1999 WRX's ass last time, I went up to 160kmph and left him 60 meters behind... lol

Also last time I was gaining on a Vauxhaul 6.0L V8 360bhp stock... very strange hey... anyone else got stories like this?

I had a go at a light weight Lotus (elise I think), rolling start and I was in the right gear every time he floored it I was all over him, gaining on him every single time! :D

But then we both stopped side by side at traffic lights.....I lost :( due to other road users.

I see you are on budget :woot: so, try the same trick with the EVO with a set of 15" or 16" Rays and tell me how much he stayed behind :D

manos: :D I think he might have been more shocked than me

By replacing your OEM EK9 wheels with 15" TE37s, you remove around 15 kg. The scale will show 15 kg, but this would be equivalent to 30 kg because its an unsprung weight(not supported by suspension) which means better acceleration, braking, and handling! :woot:

hmmm, turbo lag? But even at that did it have the raised tailgate spoiler cause if it did its atleast 300 bhp (Any of the Lancer's under this have a smaller spoiler they are usualy 260bhp if memory serves)???

I seen a CTR EK9 pounding it down the motorway not so long ago with a Pulsar GTiR not far in tow dunno what was going on but the EK was hammering it big time! EK9's are the dogs danglies!!!!

Manos: great info! I might look up some, but if only the TE37's came in time attack editions and in 15s or 16s... :( I really like that black and red pin strip look on an EK9.

Danny: Yup it was a white evo MR with black raised spoiler. Looked pretty good... Yeh EK9's got amazing top end for a 1.6L N/A... but still, I couldn't believe what happended... my engine felt strong and 3rd gear pulls harder than 1st and 2nd...lol

hahahaha thats wat i like to hear....why waste the mad amounts of money on a evo or the likes of them wen you could buy an ek9 an eat them off the road!:nice: :D

Wait, you do know the te37's come in time attack colors right? Either the time atack te37 or the ce28n would look great on your car!

The CE28N come with too many spokes which I don't like :angry2:, I think you can find every size and offset with 10-spokes, and only 16" (I'm not sure) with 8-spokes. They are also a bit heavier than TE37 and have more strength. I believe there is no force to crack or bend those rims damn!! :nerv:

i raced a mr2 twin entry turbo last week and left it by 4 car lengths. the next nite i raced a dc2 wit 4.78 final drive, some ice box induction thing, jasma manifold, de cat, n hks silencer n stayed right beside it!!!! i mean the front of my car was where his mirror was and that was all d way off d clock!!!!

Whats your spec Cormy? I know ek9s have great handling, but people always seem to say they are not fast in a straightline?

Good going:nice:

are you guys being serious? I am just saying is that can the EK 1.6 really keep up with a Evo?!!

I'm getting mine soon and really excited to see what it can do.

A stock EK9 cannot stay with or beat an 2.0 L Turbo 270 - 300 bhp EVO, because this is just Physics rules!! But a heavily modified one can, but not in straight roads!

hey dino, that was exactly what I was thinking, I only hope they come in 16" for Ek9.:nerv::nerv:

Cormy: good stuff! when I wasted the WRX, it was done with a DC2R beside me, and I also was stuck to it side by side... :D the WRX got hammered by 2 hondas...

Tmus: I was very surprised too... unless the EVO thought it didn't need to use full revs, I was gaining in 3rd gear... :D I was happy to nail a WRX but to keep up with an evo is something cool...
