My old EJ9 was completely stock and it could do 128mph on GPS on the clocks it showed as 130mph exactly (this was with 15" wheels
 
christ haha that must have took you a bit of time? Lol Ive got an ej9 aswell just recently got new 15" jordans need to investigate :p haha had it up at 110mph before

It should definately do over 120 !

The stock speed for a EK4 says 129 in the book but i had mine off the clock which is beyond 145mph (on the dash anyway prob around 140mph real speed)

Put a B18c6 (standard S80 G/box) in it and I hit the limiter in 5th gear which i'm led to believe is near 150mph

Had my EK9 at 164mph on the clocks back in the day with only aem intake and mugen twin loop. Car had another two in it a the time as well.

Even allowing for a 10% error, which is generous with a 40k car with no engine problems, it'd still be doing 150ish and theres certainly an audi s3 driver somewhere who can testify to that.

That was after a good few teething problems and a long long long long stretch of ..... runway, of course it was a race only runway ;)

i had my car at, i dont no what speed it was but the needle was at the first c of the civic type r logo in the cluster and i still had 5th gear to pull :p the car only had a induction kit as well

Ive heard many of times the gear ratio's from the standard B-Series G/box's can only do just above 150

151mph - 153mph being the max between the varients ( i cant remember or swear by these figures.) so you would have to have bounced the limiter in 5th to achieve those figures.

Ive also heard that EK9 clocks converted to MPH are extremely innacurate

You should look into Gearing/ RPM vs MPH

These are just pulled from Honda-tech.com and by the looks of it pretty accurate too
 
Whats the rev limit on an EK9? 8900rpm or 8600rpm?
The way i worked it out changing gear at 8,200rpm, with 195/55/15 tyres and an S4C gearbox.

Gear - Ratio- Speed (mph)
1st - 3.23 - 40
2nd - 2.105 - 62
3rd - 1.458 - 89
4th - 1.107 - 117
5th - 0.848 - 153
Final - 4.4

Theoretically a top speed with a limiter of 8,900 = 166mph, 8,600 = 161mph.
Wouldn't say my calculations are 100% acurate but close enough.

top speed :blabla: they aint built for top speed, all about acceleration for me :D
 
well my EK9 before i sold it with B18 lost some HP, dynod at 184BHP :( exhaust problems etc) And i used to top it out all the time... GPS reading i would struggle hard to get 138MPH.. Speedo said 147MPH.. Literally be stuck at that speed on a straight.. Once i hit 152MPH(speedo downhill) so about (142 GPS) Had couple more revs just not enough power lol... 160MPH is absolutely laughable. You wouldn't even hit that on speedo let alone GPS unless running 230BHP+ or something. Then maybe but on the longest stretch ever lol....

You need some power to hit 160's lol..
 
as people have said above they are not built for top speed...
Persoanlly i would say a realistic Top speed of an EK4 VTi with minor mods is about 115-118 MPH and on an EK9 probably 125MPH

I say "REALISTIC TOP SPEED" as the speed the car can get up to quickly as i found up to about 110 - 115 the EK4 has plenty of acceleration but anything after this is simply not realistic speed as the car was accelerating at a ridicuously slow rate and taking a Massive amount of distance to get to its top speed.

For example I have a mate that owns a subaru impreza and he says he has had it 165MPH on a GPS i don't doubt this as it has a lot of work done to it but in reality his subaru is very quick to 135 MPH anything after this and it feels likes its just slowly creeping

So i would actually say a stock EK4 has a realistic speed of just under 120 MPH and i should think an EK9 is probably about the same if not 125 MPH yes they may well both be able to do 145MPH but it takes ages to get there and about 3 miles of road so really it is not within the capabilities of the car as it has to be pushed to get there where as 115mph - 120mph is easily achievable..

Supercars are for people who want to talk about top speed...
PLus i know its much more fun racing a porshce boxter and beating him from the traffic lights to 105 MPH and then he roars off to his 160MPH top speed but who really won the race?? and who had the most fun??

ME and he knew it aswell.... lol

I know what your saying topher but i dont agree - my VTI when it had B16a2 got up to 135 very easy - after that it crawled

Once it had b18 it got there even faster but again just after 135-140 was a bit of a drag

A top speed capability is far different than what your talking about but its a fair point
 
you don't agree with the speeds i quoted as realistic top speed for EK4?? or simply the real world top speed thing all together lol

i was talking about a stock EK4 with an air filter and a mugen twinloop back box so as near to stock as you can get really... was yours modded at all mate.
135mph true speed ??? or speedo indicated..??

i wish mine did 135 MPH quickly mine was pushed to even get to 135 MPH let alone quickly lol
about 134 MPH - 135 MPH gps speed is all i could get from mine with minor mod's took a life time to get the extra speed after 125..
 
160mph! Haha that's brilliant....

Mines still restricted to 130, to be fair it does get there pretty easily, I need to sat nav it though. Im really not bothered about going any faster, at that speed the petrol guage is moving a LOT faster than the speedo!
 
Standard EK9 gears are FAR too long anyways

Get a gearset and you will be accelerating way faster and have a broader range of useable speed

Also if you are that fussed you can brag about being able to rattle the limiter in 5th with ease

Must've taken some brave pill's, ej9 brakes/ suspension are terrifiying at 70mph nevermind 120 :shocked:

My 9 will do 100000kmh...just and tegiwa intake, spoon exhaust and flux capacitor. Plenty of revs left aswell :nice:
