Why do people make replicas of vti's and ek9's?

I fully understand the reasons that people take ej9’s and stick a b16/18 into them and sort the suspension set up, purely for cost reasons. Some can be quite cool.

What I don’t agree with is people who make there car look like something it isn’t, i.e making your ej9 look exactly like an ek9 with body parts, spoiler, wheels, badges etc. Waste of money imo as you will be driving around in a “fake”…Would you wear fake clothes?

Its only becomes shitty when they put type r decals on something that's not a genuine type r IMO, Other then that I don't blame them for wanting to use type r parts :)

Well I had an EK4 and did copy of EK9, why?
Because:
1) can not afford EK9
2) RHD is not allowed in my country
3) I just love do build cars

As been said before, it's because of insurance etc. But I prefer people to make replicas of vti's and ek9's (except for the Type R stickers etc when it's not a Type R) instead of slamming a ridiculously useless wide bodykit or something similar and an exhaust big enough that could be used for a barbecue.

I don't mind replicas, I think they look fine. :nice:

I guess you could say its the same reason anyone does anything in life, Because they want to .....

Personally i think it'd be quite fun to build a car from an EJ9 or something.. Yeh i know modding an EK9 is better but the EK9 is all ready Brilliant :D.. and like FormulaRon above said, I hate to see them stanced or modded to be Euro style cars.. Thats where its nice to see Ej9's modded and the Ek9 left to be modded for Race / Fast road or left alone.

+1

I'm against EK9's being broken and parts being used for EJ9's etc, BUT I have nothing against people modding EJ9's or making replicas.. Also, I'd rather all the crazy and cool idea's being applied on EJ9's than EK9's.

I take it people of make replicas loose a hell of a lot of money when coming to resell?

Yeah. As all it is is another civic. Only worth money in parts really. I don't really like the whole rep thing. I can sort of understand in places like the US. I ended up removing the type r stickers on my old 9 just because I felt they were a bit played out with all the reps about.

I think everyone has made valid points towards why people do spend money on ej9's etc... I personally own a ej9 that I have spent money on. I bought it with modifications already done, I could have afforded/ insured a ek4 or ek9 but at that point in time the car came up at the right time for the right money and I have enjoyed not caring about ruining a ek9 which is a great car, I'm just taking a lowly ej9 and improving upon it. Although Deep down I think everyone wishes they had held out for a ek9. I do sometimes.

not available in my country.

Yes they are :) Just not many of them.

yeh agree with most here, running costs / insurance etc...I guess making an exact copy of EK9 with OEM parts and having the sunroof still there....doesnt work for me.

But I guess for most...EJ9's plenty of good (blank canvases) for sale...and then depends on your wallet....and if you decide to break it (its only an EJ9)....

but the best bit....what ever you do....you've built it

Basically what I done except I never went the full way like Rippu. I built my EJ9 up spend almost £2000 modifying without touching the engine. Now it's gonna be up for sale and I'll be lucky to get £1500 for it. I don't mind tho had it for 3 years and loved bringing it up from nothing! Also, my mum gave me th car so I haven't lost out in both buying and modding the car. Guess I'm lucky in that sense!

i live in California bro, its a bit different, you know what i mean, its about $20k to import one last i checked and its kind of unsafe to drive a car with the steering wheel on the right side.

Ah, I gotcha. There are several out there in CA. Buddy of mine also from Alabama sold his 2000 ctr to a guy from CA about a month or two ago. There are two others still in AL other than mine, both of those are yellow though.

Won't be long and it'll be completely legal to import them. Last I read anything over 21 years old gets to skip EPA and Dot testing when they get here. I'll have me a black rx once they reach age haha.

i would imagine the majority of the ek9 reps out there dont have the seam welding that the ek9 does

i think in california its 25 years and it has to be older than 1979 or sum **** :(

i'd imagine most of them don't handle as well as mine and i don't have seem welding... :naughty:

Makes the chassis stiffer and stronger.

Nothing that a cage wouldn’t sort however.
