Why do people make replicas of vti's and ek9's?

What I understand less is why someone would take an EJ9 and do the full conversion on it. So it's the the same insurance, running costs etc, but with all the ballache and expense of the conversion and the inevitable fact that come resale, it's still just an EJ9 which is never going to be worth as much as a genuine EK9.
I can think of another reason: the country is lhd and you don't want to change to rhd. But still, an EK9 replica won't be as good as a real EK9 as the chassis is different. Imho it's kinda lame to put an EK9 badge on a replica. EK4 though can be copied and be exactly the same so I suppose that is a different matter...

its kind of unsafe to drive a car with the steering wheel on the right side.
Nah, it really isn't :) On roundabouts, where bikers often get priority I can see them coming better than in an lhd car and the rest is just a matter of using your head. Wether you drive lhd or rhd, looking over your shoulder is exactly the same. Only thing that is difficult sometimes is passing a truck on a 1 lane road as you can't look passed the truck. So sometimes you have to hang in there untill the opportunity presents itself to do it safely :D

Or because you cant get one into the country. I cant so I have to do a replica.

I have never really understood it either. Alot of the people i see do it think it's fien to stick type-r badges and stickers on because "it's so close to one anyway" If i couldn't get an EK9 here in the UK I wouldn't waste a hunk of money building one to look like it, id simply buy a better car.

Never really understood why people go so crazy for that JDM sh*t y0.

Whilst i love my EK9 there are plenty of cars that are much better than it is. Building a base spec civic to look like it imo is a waste of time.

Insurance is the only thing that stopped me. I started building this at 15, I never stuck "Civic Type-R" decals on it, because it wasn't and never would be but I loved that little car, and didn't want anything else but a Honda for my first car and personally I love the look of them. My intention was never to build a Type R replica, just the choice of good fitting OEM parts led me in that similar direction. There is nothing that annoys me more than the word "Replica". I honestly do not understand why people set out to copy and understand your point completely, they are only fooling themselves.

I cannot not think of much worse than the owners of those MR2-Ferrari's lol

built not bought!
if you build something you put so much time effort and money into it.. has more sentimental value to it..
yes eventually when u build the car (maybe an EJ9) u may have spent enough to have bought a type r or a vti but whats the fun in buying a type r/vti...
its all a learning process... also whos to say they wont go and buy a type r as there second car?

One thing that you can't build the ek9 replica is the chassis even if you literally transfer all parts, the ek9 has stiffen chassis with reinforced materials. The handling will not be the same as a genuine ek9.

Driving it? ej9/ek3/4's drive how they were built to, small family/shopping cars. Yes you can build them into track oriented cars but even then they fall short to the ek9. I don't think there are many average joe car enthusiasts that can build a standard civic as well as the brainiacs at honda who designed and built the ek9.

My ej9 r type wanabe with ek9 lip and grille lol

Only reason i can think of is to make the EJ look nicer. it doesnt look to bad standard but when you add a EK to it, it makes it look alot better as well as cheaper insurance etc.

In Belgium it's a very time consuming process to import an EK9.
And cars here are LHD so there's a few downsides when you own a RHD car (overtaking a truck or tractor f.e).

For me it's not so much about making a complete replica, EK9 parts are just so much better looking than VTi parts imo. If you're not fond of aftermarket bodykits and wings, oem+ is the way to go. Which makes EK9 parts the only/best available option.

I do agree with the Type-R decals, it's ridiculous to use them if you don't own a Type-R. Red Honda emblems do look nice on some cars.

civic are extremely popular in Australia but there would only be a handful of genuine ek9s. I had the chance to buy one but decided against it because i regularly do track/gymkhana/touge and did not want to molest a genuine ek9. i bought a ek1 for a couple of grand and building up a replica. If anything happens i can buy another ek1 shell and transfer everything over. if i put a little scratch on a genuine ek9 i think id cry which would hold me back from competing in it.

I live on an island where ek9's aren't exactly rare and where most of them are dogs and still command a high enough price.

Starting with a lesser model made more sense than buying an ek9 and working backwards as what some people would say. For less than what a good and decent ek9 would cost me to buy and insure i can/have/am build exactly what i want the way i want in and insure it with everything legit. Not worried about residual value either as i don't plan to sell it, if i did i'd make substantially more breaking it

Would like a clean prefacelift sir in the near future to add to the garage with just some suspension and wheel upgrades but nothing mad.

A mate of mine actually took all the decals off his ek9 and it always got questions, about it being a rep etc that suited him fine as less dick heads rode the rear bumper looking a race.

When I bought my ek9 I thought I was constantly goin to have a corsa sitting behind me and trying to over take but I've had it about 4 months now and not once has somebody sat up my ass trying to race. And my town has its fair share of fanny boy racers!

It has a small amount of seem welding,
You can easily do this to any car....

Its almost the same as asking why any of us modify cars though...
