Uprated grooved Disc's (Don't have to be JDM!)

Personally if you are going to spend that sort of money, I would go large on everything, otherwise you may as well just buy the Spoon kit? Larger disc is a must, you can stay fixed to keep the cost down if you want, as its often the bits that mount the bells etc to rotors that can add up on an already expensive kit.
Are you going to get enough for a group buy to bring down your costs - unlikely! So look after number 1.
As for pad choice, its a case of what you need, if the caliper is good the pad doesnt have to be as extreme - for us average people (not racing drivers!). I will start with a DS2500 in my Brembos & see how I get on, I reckon they will be plenty :D
The other main problem could be your alloy choice?

I know what you are saying mate but the spoon Kit is around the same price & you only get calipers!
The kit they are drawing up for me is to fit behind the stock wheel as that is what i run on my 9! In the future i will prob change my wheel's but i just ant got the £££ at the mo for both!!
The thing for me is that @ the mo i am running on OEM discs & some cheep local motor factor pad's:angry: so i need to replace both disc & pad's!
I just dont see the point in spending £500 + on replacing them when i can spend a little extra & get a proper setup!
I dont think i will get enough intrest in a group buy to bring down costs, but i am looking after my self as i am getting my kit for £700 as it is my car that they are doing the test fit's on & using my part's to design the kit!:D
I just want to be sure i have a good setup for the track so i can make the most of my track day's!:nice:

Fair point m8, I forgot you only get the calipers with Spoon. The quote is good, I remember a few years back they did a kit for 'Shed motorsport' for the clio182 - which they do for a similar price.
You would probably need ten people to bring the cost down £100 - estimation of course, shame you couldnt get them, being as there are hundreds of owners on here. As I have said they make good brakes & Im sure you will be pleased with them, when will the kit be ready? :secret:

There nothing much do to with the size of the caliper, imagine if you put F50 caliper kit on but using EBC green and crap disk. You still not gonna stop your car then just upgrading to proper racing disk and pad. Is all about the quality of the disk and pad, if you look at F1 car, all they are running is only 282mm disk but pure carbon disk and pad.

Surley more surface area is good? Bigger piston must be better? No experience of F1 cars but Il bet whatever caliper they use is off the chart in quality..

I know what you are saying but how many owners want to spend £900 on brakes???
I have told them i need them for our track day in march, They did say usualy a 4 week turn around! so should be well ready for 7th march!:nice:
Im sure they will be more than enough for what i want:D

Brembo slotted & Hawk pad - very good.
Dixcel FCR & type Z pad - very good

Think I will look into these two first of all.

I jsut cant justify spending lots of cash on something like SPOON calipers, when I will probabaly being doing only 2 trackdays a year if that.

I'm sure the above would be just fine for fast road use..

Where can I find the Bremo discs and braided lines for EK9? Also, a lot of people upgrade just the front discs and pads..what do you guys recommend?

Bad News Guy's

I have had to put my brake kit on the back burner for a while as i got a call on monday telling me there was no way of fitting the kit i want behind the stock wheel:angry2: & i just cant afford a new set of wheel's as weel @ the mo! (got a baby on the way!)
They said would be alot better with a 16" wheel or could prob just about get it behind a good clearance 15" wheel!
The prob is the size of the lip on the inside of the stock wheel!
I am so P****d off that i cant get these sorted now, but i am still working with them to put a kit together for the EK9/DC2:nice:

So back to the original topic what would you guy's recomend for track use (disc & pad) & i have £500 budget!
I would just save up & buy some new wheel's but i have a track day booked fot the 7th of march & i need some descent brakes for then!

Uhm, what about Legend GS calipers? 2pot calipers for a reasonable price :) Besides of course good discs, pads and brake fluid.

I've been chatting with Dixon (Dixcel Brakes) and he suggested for road and a couple of trackdays a year:

FCR carbon plain disc front - £220
Type Z carbon pad - £145
Rear plain disc - £110
Rear Z pad - £125

Ill second that i am running teh same set up but with slotted fcr on front and slot discs on rear, awesome stopping power and never fade :nice:

Hmm..OK.

This setup comes to over £500. Not sure if I want to splash out that much right now..think I will go for a more mild setup.

What would you recommend as an alternative the setup I mentioned below?
