Turbo Owners - Any Regrets?

yes my evo hahaha on a more serious note i think that after spending a huge amount of money on a turbo and the possibility of it blowing up frightens me :p

Before i decided to do a k20 swap i was thinking down the route of turbo'ing, and after some late nite's researching on it it is just a big money pit,

A very good friend of mine has just turboed his integra and it is a breast it was built by will on hear and i think he spent around 13,000 on just the engine it is producing at high boost 500+ bhp :blabla::blabla: and it was built for reliability terms and after 2 weeks the oil pump went , but because that went the turbo seal went and the list went on, it is know running fine and he finally took me out in it and ooooo my

it is just a amazing car sounds amazing :blabla: but was it worth all the money oo yes

i think if you have the money why not go for it but do expect some think to give at some point :)

I'm on my 3rd oil pump now, i bet there was some **** in the oil what caused this just like mine. Did he inspect the pump ? i bet it was scored badly... The turbo seals probably went due to the oil flow been to high. A restrictor is needed a lot of the time on our Honda's.

@OP
I still have no regrets what so ever, it screams its bonnet off, scares the **** out of me and who ever's in the car and puts a big smile on my face everyday of the week.
If it blew up i still wouldn't regret it as long as it got me through the winter, i'd just build a stronger forged block.... Ask Ramsey to show you the Video of mine, its not the best quality but i think i was hitting around 140mph at one point. I'm going to put some good video's and pictures when the weather gets better so look out.

To be fair im also on my third oil pump and im only NA so dont see what difference boost makes?

Good response rich cheers.

Spec would be

ITR Head
CTR cams
Edelbrock valvesprings/retainers
Standard headgasket
ARP headbolts

B18C4 bottom end rather than my type r one atm.

My current crome ecu.

Then either home made turbo kit or racetech one.

With what I have atm I reckon I could do it for 1500 pounds ish, inlcuding selling my type r bottom end and using moneyto buy c4 and other parts.

How are they to drive on backroads/rain etc?

That sounds like a good setup for turboing and alot of people go for the lower compression b18c4 bottom end

I am wondering tho, do you know why your car has went through 3 oil pumps?? Where you loosing oil pressure? Some engines have a bad big end bearing causing the drop in oil pressure and people diagnose it as a faulty oil pump, I'm not saying thats the case with yours tho

The first was on an engine i took out a car i broke for parts and kept the engine. N00b mistake I didnt replace it and it failed.

2nd was after I got that engine rebuilt and the glass beading from the head being set about by the machine shop stayed in it, found it in the vtec solenoid gasket and killed my pump.

Got rid of all that **** and on my third now, holding up just fine fingers crossed.

The wheelspin in 5th gear doesnt really appeal tbh. I like going fast on backroads round tight bends, so do need traction. Wouldnt want any more than 300bhp.

Have you inspected the failed pumps ? I hate oil pumps mate i really do, the slightest bit of crap that goes through them and there ****ed. I think boost just speeds up the process if there's any **** in the oil

Your setup sounds good to me, those CTR cams will work a treat. How many miles are on those retainer's ? You may want to change them or just swap the springs for a set of OEM CTR or ITR with stock retainer's. Personally i'd tell you to put it together yourself as it isnt that hard and may save you some cash + its fun to. But other's might tell you different.... Feel free to pm me any question's you have if you get stuck or need advice.

Mine spin's everywhere in the wet by the way. Its the problem you get with having all that power going to the front wheels lol.

yeah if you want the vid Rich sent me off his turbo honda let me know your email address! its insane!!! Rich is a sound guy and knows his stuff, best to pick his brain!! I am scared of oil pumps now after the problems you guys have had! lol
