any1 know the legal regulations on exhausts? i got done the other nite for noise polution. no machine was used to measure db (even tho im not sure wot db mine is) the scum just asked me t rev to 4k n let it off n said it was too loud... 30 quid fine on the spot n have t change my exhaust... he stood n argued with me that the exhaust wasnt on the car wen i passed mot a few weeks ago when it was... any1 know wer i can get a db test done?

That doesn't sound right, sure he can't just issue you a fine on the stop without checking it with some kind of device? Does he have bionic ears that tell him the db.....lol.

Course he can, he's a f**kin copper!!

W*nkers pulled me over the other day, a whole meat wagon full of em and then proceeded to search my car. One of them opened my passenger door onto a high kerb and took the paint off the bottom of the door - left a mark on the kerb and everything.

And what did he do? Denied it. Completely. And what chance have I got against the word of 6 coppers?

Dont ever underestimate the ability of their lot to completely f**k with you. I been dealing with em long enough to know.

Damn....any reason why they searched you?

And returning to the above, I read through those links posted and it does just seem like a very grey area! But without them having done a valid test, which from what I can tell has to use an issued device, used 0.5m away from your car, at 45 degree angle, with the revs held at 4500 rpm. And they have to take into account buildings etc with their effects on noise reflection. Apparently the limit is in the high 90s and some even state 100db.

Worth arguing the toss with though mate, definitely!

sat will do man... ill lend u mine til i show the police if u want but u risk a 30 quid fine lol

they cant do you unless they measure it!ive been told before my exhaust was too loud on many cars and i ailways ask same question-whats too loud and i always get same answer -i dont know.unless they get you in and perform a proper test they cant give you a fine.i know its cops and their c***s but i wouldnt pay til they prove it.

This is a problem everywhere they just do exactly as they want I just stay out of my local town as much as possible to avoid them...

the cops go cracked for exhausts...i was readin in my local paper 2 lads got 12mnths off the road one had no tax an exhaust system the other had exhaust an licence plates were too small...but the judge they got in my town is a psycho an hates any sort of modified car she'll ban lads off the road any chance she gets

The db limit for cars are now 101db at 3k rpm
Thats the limit set by the dvla and vosa (UK) and use it for cars having an sva(single vehicle approval)test
All car manufacturers have to stick by it and anyone building a kit car too aswell as sports exhaust manufacturers
Another thing is when the police/vosa do a db test they must position the db meter at 45 degrees to the left or right of youre exhaust tip at 1metre distance from it.

My mate got 90db @3krpm on his k20 EG, 3" exhaust, Vibrant siliencer, Vibrant muffler.
