Kozy's EK4 in action.

Must be a list 1a or 1b tyre. List 1a is basically road tyres, Toyo T1Rs, Eagle F1s etc. The AD08s that I have are pretty much at the top of this bracket. Bizarrely, the Hankook RS2 is not listed.

1b covers high performance and R compound tyres, so things like Michelin Pilot Sport Cups, R888s, AO48s etc etc. Slicks are excluded.

I can technically run either, however some events have supplimentary regulations saying that my class must only use 1a tyres, hence the choice of AD08s at the moment.

Congrats regardless, options are always good in racing.
Going wider cant hurt, other than the bank account.

Haha! Trouble is it feels like the amount of grip I have already is about the limit with the suspension I run in terms of body roll. I think a fair step up stiffness is going to be required to get the best from wide R compound tyres but it's all money I don't have at the moment.

More to add to the wishlist that keeps on growing I guess! Stuff I am aiming to get done this year includes (in order of urgency).

Baffled sump
Rebuilt gearbox with close 3/4/5.
Full length alloy radiator
Upgraded rear brakes
Rear camber kit
Wider wheels and sticky tyres
Track orientated suspension

Stuff I will probably get done this year? Probably not alot :(

Failure at the sprint today, only managed the practice runs and the bottom end has given up the ghost. Another B series dies at my hands, and I though these things were supposed to be reliable?!

My only timed run today, that's full throttle oversteer at the first corner, it could really do with some R comps up the back!

WOW that video looks great, i think you hit the dirt on the first corner which may have helped add to the snap oversteer, damm good catch though man lightning reactions :) Nice driving mate, that little sprint looks so much fun wish i had the chance to go on someting like that..
need a car first though :p

So gutted to hear the engine gave up on you.. as if you've killed 2 B series now.
Got a B16A2 with 107,000 miles on it for £380 includes ecu and loom and driveshafts and mounts and all that.. it ain't got an inlet mani, exhuast, or air intake or radiator but i'm sure you ahve these parts to transfer over..
if you fitted the B16B gearbox you got onto it you'd have a spare B16A2 box as well.

Let me know if you want it mate as i think Jimbo wants it also but hasn't confirmed yet.

Cheers for the offer buddy but hopefully all it is is a spun bearing, if it is then some new bearings and piston rings should fix it without needing to remove the engine from the car. I have my eye on some B18C internals going cheap though, if I'm pulling the guts out I might aswell stroke it at the same time, it seems I really could use the low end power after all! :D

That time was about 4th in class, had lots to improve on but didn't get the chance sadly. By the end of the day I think I was way down the board, not seen the results yet though.

When you've got a car again, you should check out your local motor club and get involved! :nice:

^^^oil pressure/temp gauge too..

sorry to hear of the engine loss, only a spun bearing...hope that is all you find as damage.

yeah man i will try and get invloved it looks good fun and will teach me alot about the car...
Offer is there if you need it mate, although stroking it seems like a good idea..
Hope fully it is a bearing spun :nerv:

By stroking it do you not go up a class ??

No, I'll stay in the sub 2000cc class. Unsure about the stroker though, the internals come out of a JDM B18C that also spun a bearing, so it would need the same treatment as mine.

I see you're in the club as my mate David Blades, not seen him in too long a time.

Haha yes I know the guy, very clever chap! His Griffith sounds insanely good and his Subaru isn't to be sniffed at either. How do you two know each other then?

Kozy's EK4 is now out of action for the foreseeable future due to bottom end failure, tax disc is in the post back to the DVLA for a refund. Just bought a £350 diesel Mondeo barge as a replacement daily. :(

House move next month is forcing me to store the car away until the summer when I can afford to rebuild the bottom end properly with B18C internals which should give the car some much needed low end power for the kind of competition use it sees. Wth the new house being walking distance to work, when it goes back on the road it can be resigned to more focussed duties as an autosolo/sprint/hillclimb competition car as it will not be required to commute/do the shopping in etc.

However, at the moment and as I imagine often happens when cars fall in to this kind of situation, I'm half contemplating breaking it and starting fresh with a JDM ITR, or maybe something completely different like an MX5. As of now the parts list is worth about £2.5/3k minus the shell and most of the original parts. Not really sure it's worth the hassle of breaking for the meagre amount I would get back especially knowing that it would be hard for me to find an equal replacement for that much, but the temptation is there...

Fix it when you have time Koz, you know it makes sense.

Either that or break it and buy H's ek9......

Bad news, do you know what happened to cause the bottom end to fail at all?
