Hey Guys / Gals..

Whoop finally got my car back running today !! Thanks alot to my mate John for the work !!

My gearbox uses the M Factory 1st, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 4.05 Final Drive - The Diff is the Quaife ATB LSD - I had EVERY internal part replaced with brand new OEM parts from Honda - Synchro Kit For All Gears, All Bearings And Seals, New Selector Fork, Release Bearing and Both CV Joints Etc Etc..

Can I just say WOW, these gears are really the replacement for displacement !! - 1st gear is so much better with the longer ratio and the drop in RPM between 3rd and 4th is very minimal !!! - Its just on constant power !! Im am sooo please with the outcome !!!

Can I just say I big thankyou to the following people - Everyone at Ek9.org, Baz at BSP Imports, Will Ek9Turbo, John at Kerrs Garage Arbroath, Charles Butler Engineering Forfar For The Amazing Build, Dave At Quaife Uk and Last But By No Means Least - M-Factory !!!!

bet you cant wait to try it down the 1/4 mile!!
 
Nice mate, well done! you couldnt pm the price you paid for all of it as I would like this done in the summer. If you dont mind mate? cant wait to see it at crail! :)
 
To be honest mate, far too much money !! - I wanted everything to be perfect tho, I cant stress how good a brand new internal'd box feels !! - Everything is sooooo tight and smooth !!! You wouldnt belive just how good it feels knowing everytime you want to select a gear at high RPM you are gonna get it with no crunches !!

I think im getting up near 50 mph with the longer 1st gear - On the M Factory calculator it claims 47mph.

I really cant wait to try it on the quater, I just hope the weather is kind so I can get some power down in 1st and second gear !!

Nice m8 :D, how do you find normal driving, with the longer of the MF ratios & especially that long first? People dont seem to understand how the car pulls as you change gear even at low revs..

Normal driving is fine mate, it takes abit off getting used to tho as I keep thinking my clutch is slipping going into 4th gear !! There is hardly any drop in revs atol !! - To be honest with the new set-up the car now pulls as if its in one lower gears, ( i.e ) when in 3rd it accelarates like its in 2nd !! This should be the FIRST mod any ek9 owner does !! - I cant begin to imagine what the gears would be like with the standard Final Drive !! Aggghhhh !! lol :drive:

Be interesting to compare your times at the strip, Im guessing if you are a regular, you have a personal best?
 
I only have a personal best with the STANDARD b16b - It was 14.61 at 97mph..
The reason I went for the 4.05 was with my ratio's and the standard 4.4 FD I would be limiting at 102mph in 4th gear, I should be reaching more than that with my spec - Roughly 108 - 110 mph. The less gearchanges in a race benifits overall time, therefor with the 4.4 I would need 5th gear just before the finish line.. Lol thats the method behind my madness, ohh the 4.05 tops out 4th gear at 112mph - Near perfect !!

since you got a Longer 1st gear AS well AS a longer Final Drive?

From that i would have thought the car will be slower from a standing start?


from 0 to end of 2nd gear must be slower?
 
It sounds sweet, i cant believe how much you have put into that car now. It must be absolute perfection by now.

good to hear the cars going great haribo .ill need to come thru sooon and catch up.looking forward to seeing you at crail,i wish i could aford to redo the gears in my 98spec teg box
 
what rpm would it be doing at 100km in 5th?or would this be a build for track only?well done though nicely planned work

Yeah I have the 3.07 First Gear and 4.05 final drive. The problem with my setup mate was in 1st gear - say you were just driving at say 5mph and you just floored the throttle the wheels would start to spin seriously violent !! straight onto the rev limiter - However by fitting the longer 1st gear it removes the way the power kicks in so aggresive therfor improving 1st gear traction - there for improving accelaration times :nice: - The longer 1st gear gives me an all round close ratio gear set as it also brings second gear alot closer to 1st aswell.

On a standard b16b set-up this may not be a good set-up as the engine may not produce sufficient power to make good use of the longer ratio..
