alrigh lads,

just wonderin how can you tell a 96 from a 98 spec b18c and box??

without relying on peoples word:nono:

cheers,
Den:nice:

ya but if ur just getting the engine and box.

is there a way of telling the difference?

  1. ITR 96 spec has cast iron 4-2-1 header.
  2. ITR 96 spec has a S80 w/LSD + 4JHD gearbox (4jhd = 4.40 final drive)
  3. ITR 98 spec has steel 4-1 header usually with the header cover painted in black.
  4. ITR 98 Spec has a carbon fiber spark plug cover.
  5. ITR 98 Spec has intake ports cleaned up by machine rather than by hand (96 Spec).
  6. ITR 98 Spec has a S80 w/LSD + NE3 gearbox (NE3 = 4.78 final drive)
You can find the gearbox codes stamped in the housing.

Hope this helps :nice:

Also I want to add that in every chart I find on the Internet, they mention that a 96 spec ITR has a Y80 / S80 transmission.

Every 96 spec ITR gearbox I've seen has the S80 code stamped on, so I think that none of the JDM 96 spec ITR transmission came with the Y80 gear box.

Yeah, I never heard of carbon plug wire. Mine doesn't come with it, although its not jdm.

It's easy... 98spec comes with factory HID standard.

Also bigger brakes and 5 stud wheels compared to 4 stud 96spec.
Brakes should fill up the stock 16" wheels.
Rear bumper has a diffuser like design compared to nothing on the 96spec

Sorry, I didn't read correctly.

you can check out the Engine number on the block. This number should be the same as the blue chassis plate. The trick is, you have to find out which numbers were made from 98 onwards. So its 'B18C 1xxxxxx'
