Genuine ek9 vs Fake

Hi guys, I'm looking into buying an ek9 here in Malta. The market is very limited here so finding a good ek9 for sale is a rare occurrence. There is one that has caught my eye but it has been for sale for quite a while.
I am wondering if it might be a fake ek9. Or rather an ek4 converted to an ek9.
Does anyone have a list of things to check to make sure it's an original ek9 ?

Thanks

Hi mate.....i'm from Malta too and can spot a converted "ek9" from miles away.....i got one too :) Is it the white one that has been on MaltaPark for quite a while with forged internals etc....?

If thats the one then to be honest i have my suspicions as well but would need more pics to confirm but as a general rule, the chassis number under the bonnet should give it off as a conversion or genuine ;)

If you get the owner to open the bonnet for you......this is what ur after! It's very clear to be honest......it must say EK9 Type R

Don't just go with that badge, as they can be cloned or taken from a gen ek9 . Get the stamp on the firewall Vin and ring around, make sure it's not cut and welded into firewall , have a good look at it ,but if it's not a ek9 you should spot that fast enough.

At first glance and the obvious give aways are 4 stud, sunroof and original rear tinted glass....a little more inspection go for the thickness of the ARB. You can spot the thickness difference from a normal ek and an ek9 just by looking at it. Following that have a good look at the interior. Red Recaro's, carbon ek9 cluster, carbon fiber center console and grey handbrake button. Furthermore u can inspect the front subframe and steering rack which are specific for the ek9 if im not mistaken but u would need to go to a good Honda mechanic for that.

Thanks for your help guys. I have heard stories of the badge which is removed and re-welded in case of an accident or swap or whatever, so not even that is a clear indication. I think the matching vin numbers should be the ideal clue. Yes Luger it is the same ek9 which has been on maltapark for a few weeks

Apparently the Vin on the tag and vin on the fire wall will not be the same think a few last numbers will be off but most of the first 12 or 13 should be the same ?
Maybe some ek9 owners can clear that up ?

Yes in fact the thread was quite confusing. However in conclusion I think that the majority of numbers should match, except the last few digits which should differ by a value of around 20.

The vin on the blue tag will be the same as the numbers on the firewall.
However the vin on the engine itself may be a few characters different, which is what i think the thread was trying to say.

rear sub frame is also a good ek9 indicator
Yes, the way that the rear 22mm is mounted without aftermarket reinforced plate and a horizontal stock tie bar is a good solid sign physically before checking the chassis tag.

Updating you all. Went to check the ek9 personally and it is a replica.

Even though everything Michael Flare has mentioned has been converted, the chassis number on the firewall clearly says ek3. Whoever did the conversion is a bit of an idiot. The guy selling it isn't the smartest tool in the toolbox because he kept saying it's not an ek9 but it's a type R anyway.

Thanks for all the help

Truth be told, whoever did the conversion did just that.....converted an ek3 into an ek9. It's the seller trying to pull off a Civic EK as an original ek9 with the chassis number of an ek3 that's the real idiot here! ;)
