For those interested in DC5 vs ek9 performance

I love my saloon w/ a b18c1 it has proved to be more potent than a ep3 modified. So in the epic battle of dc5 vs ek9, I will say the EK chassis is most versatile.

This is gonna become another xx vs xx flaming thread

All I can say and my 2 cents is, the older generation cars have more r&d into them, i read up on an article where director and owner of spoon sports wrote about the 1997 preface and 99 facelift civics, it was the only Honda ever made that had to be built specifics different, every nut and bolt, brake disk, caliper, pads, injector rate, driveshaft weight was all different in each corner, Honda didn't create a car by slapping parts together and serve it on a plate.

They took alot of time to not only perfect the ek9 but to make the car work in precision.in sync.balanced.

I had alot of other choices of cars I wanted to get aswell, down here in Australia we have the DC5s aka type s with leather interior and a little bit extra hp (k20az) it was a nice car to drive and was certainly a quick car (better then the dc5r) but I didn't like how Honda refined this car, too quiet, no thrills, no bangs and whistles, It wasn't a car anymore, it was like driving a merc or BMW.

So I went and picked up a kay9 and never thought twice about selling it, because it's the first car I've ever driven out of all the hundreds of cars I've driven that is driver orientated and driver focused. I never felt such a thrill out of a 14 year old car, it's raw, rough and does what a car should.

Sorry about the grammar, stupid iPhone

the 9's are far nicer, and so many options, k20 in the 9, mapped & on TBs or go b18. would be hard caught

I think Blue is the worst colour

Sorry

No need to be sorry, personal choice is all it is. Thought my Blue DC5 looked as good as any C/W one I saw but glad to be back in a 9'.

May I ask, what really made you get another 9 , moving from a much newer car to older?
Curious really

My thoughts are simply, different car's entirely. I think the DC5 is awesome in comparison with it's competitors these days, but IMO simply won't compete with the older generation's for being a drivers car.

Everything HAS to be chunkier these days, a lot heavier and there is always a lot less feedback through the wheel. Everything is mollycoddled until it reaches XYZ regulations and so on and so forth. If you can put up with the rattles, noise and lack of refinement, your DEFINITELY going to enjoy an ek9 more, whether it's faster or not.

If you can't cope with driving a 14 year old car then the DC5 is a great choice, you just sacrifice driver feel. Same with everything these days.

Well first off my EK9 although 2 years older is in exceptionally good condition and although my DC5 was tidy it is not as well kept as the Ek9 thanks to the previous owner so age didn't matter.

I actually sold the DC5 for less than I paid for my EK9.

I have to agree with SiW's comments about the DC5 but to add it's the dettachment I felt with the DC5 compared to the EK9. The DC5 novelty wore off pretty quickly for me and It just didnt feel as fun as the 9, simple as.

Don't regret owning the DC5 though, great car, just not for me.

Have you got that article for me?

i duno.... I've been in Arfans Dc5 and its quite quick, av drove Matthews b18 ek

i'd say about on par....

only one way to find out:)

My Jordan would have beat Arfans DC5. The S2K was pretty much dead equal with the DC5 and the Jordan was 100% faster than the S2K.

You should think about close ratio gears! night and day difference. and fun too

Yeah I think Matthews Jordan would probs have the edge on 5.
But my 5 is standard. Wait till it has a few mods and map and short gears.
At the end of day it's going to be down to each persons own view. This is a ek9 forum so expected it to go like ek9 is the best Honda ever lol.
The dc5 isn't as raw but I wouldn't go back to a ek or b series.

To be honest - there is absolutely no point in having a debate on EK9 vs DC5 unless you are talking stock vs stock.

If your not talking about stock cars - any car could win cos then its an argument about who has the most money to pump into their car.

I'd rather talk about driving enjoyment and for me all i have seen (not just in this forum) that the EK9 wins hands down.

Yeah true. As I said each to their own.
Everyone is going to prefer different things.
Must be a reason why buddyclub use dc5 as their time attack cars.

Picking at straws a bit with this one?

It really has nothing to do with driving enjoyment like i was mentioning. And i'm pretty sure an EK9 with whatever K-Series motor in the buddyclub car and properly set up like their DC5 for the track i'm sure we all know what would win ;)

then why does spoon use EK9s for their touge runs on hotversion instead of dc5s

DC5's are big, heavy, comfy, fast, family cars! I like them but wouldnt have one!

Ek9's are small, light, quick, nimble, raw, evil track born machines! love mine in every way, love every rattle and bump! makes the experience! :)

In other words they are totally different cars and hard to compare!

agree with everything you said except for a dc5 being a family car..
still though imo an ek9 is a superior car, it a very raw and involving car to drive and thats what i love about it among other things:)
