EK9 Waxoyling

move wherever you like mate:nice:

So what is the best way to prepare the chassis before spraying the wax?
Any tips for masking small parts up?
Does this stuff set solid with use of a hardener??? or is it just a thick wax?

Also what kind of gun are you using there to apply it?

cheers

its a thick wax it doesnt set solid....u usually power hose or steam clean all the crap off the bottom of a car wen i do it then let it dry an put plastic bags over hubs exhaust tip tape old news paper around exhaust pipe an suspension.

What alternatives are there to waxoling? is there any underbody sealants that set solid?

Halfords for waxoyl, you'll need to find a proper bodyshop for underseal though. Wouldnt touch underseal over waxoyl though, horrible stuff

black waxoyl is better than the "clear"(goldy colour stuff) as it covers better, rubber bushes and brake flexys should be covered up as waxoyl damages them.

that must be a pain in the a** if ur buyin cars over there tryin to find ones wit little or no rust....its hard enuf over here an we dont salt the roads...but then again iv VERY high standards wen it comes to rust on cars.

Wrong, irish roads are salted. its in the grit, which is spread by the gritters. Thats why the roads have a white scum coating on them after a big chill, then the rain washes it away. Oh, and its slippy as F*"k!:nono:

I wouldn't have put those UK arch rubbers on, they were the main cause of rust on my old VTI.

Water and crap gets trapped behind them. When I wash my car I always wash the lip under the arch, you cannot do this with the rubber on.

They look crap too, unless you spray them with tyre dressing after every wash.

what were the axle stands placed under on the front of the car?? Can't see in the pics...

dont forget under the front arch linings people i did mine the other day

i know it isnt an ek9 or a honda for that matter, but on my starlet i removed the bumpers headlights, skirts, suspension etc to do it and believe me once your finished you know its done properly

update:
After a year or so teh waxoyl had all but gone from eth rear wheelarches so i decided to put some underseal with added waxoyl onto them, I soaped sown and cleaned the arches removed teh fuel filler cover and then applied a coat of the black stuff and now all shoudl be good for a few more years,

this provides a semi flexible coating that is reported not to crack or flake, shoudl be good,

quick tip from what we do in our bodyshop :) waxoil inside the doors where the doorskin meets the doorframe . also inside the read quarter panel there it meets the arch as thats the common place on the EG but not sure about the EK but wont hurt :)

p.s you are right that waxoil will just wash off on the outside . Atho if you heat it up till it smokes before applying it will apply a nice thin layer but will dry stupidly hard and normaly stays then

cheers bates2k, when doing this i also waxoyled inside the tailgate, bonnet reinforcement, doorskins and inside rear quarters just as you said, can never have too much waxoyl!! ha,

Definitally take the arch rubbers off bud if you have not done so already!

They are a curse and are the main reason that the arches go rusty on Hondas esp in the UK. Just hit the arches with a good coat of car wax used for polishing paintwork and re-coat everytime you was the car, takes 2mins and keeps them fresh:nice: If the paint chips on the arches which is rare just touch it in with a dot of paint
