Was talking with another EK9 owner (Matt_EK9) and discovered that his lighter socket has no juice either - Mine's been like it since I bought the car.

Checked fuses and all but never got any further than that, just one of those jobs you always put to one side. Since I'm gonna need juice for a sat nav on the way to the ring though, I thought I'd better get it fixed.

So before I break out the multimeter, has anyone else had this problem and fixed it?

if the fuses are ok then it could be the lighter itself is the problem..im assuming your talking about the lighter outlet itself.. check the wirings connected to it, it could be loose ground not allowing the lighter plug to have power.

goodluck

have you checked connections are all ok? If they are fine and your getting 12V to the lighter itself then its 100% the lighter.

Thanks for starting this Jokeshop. Was great to meet you sunday. Hopefully if I can even find my multimeter Ill have a quick look tonight and let you know how I get on. Thanks for the suggestions also guys.

Same problem here lads, not sure if its the ligher or socket. :(

I had the same problem! Lucky for me it turned out to be the fuse

Does the light in your cigarette tray work?

and mine, used to work, tried wiring a horn controller to it and it ****ed it lol

Definately have no power to the socket - I've never tried a lighter in there, only various gadgets that would draw power from it.

Don't think I'll have time to check it with the multimeter until Saturday, so will be interested to see your results Matt.

Didn't even know there was a light in the tray!!

Id replace the cigarette lighter fuse for a new one, some times they can look as if the fuse wire is fine but can be fuc*ed.

Right good news I have fixed mine I dont know if everyone else has the same problem but I hope you do because it's very easy.

I started by taking apart my dash so that I could get to the wires behind the socket. When I got to removing the plastic below the heater controls I found a grey connector that wasnt pluged. Put that together and what do you know? POWER!!! :D

Here is a link that I used before when installing my radio It shows you were all the hidden screws are. (I think this might be how it got dissconected in the first place  ).

The Install Doctor - The Do-It-Yourself Car Stereo Installation Resource

There should be a grey plug attached to the plastic below the heater controls.
(see below)

find the other end below the dash and connect as so...

There is not much slack so the plastic has to be almost back on to do this.

Hope this helps mayb we all just forgot to plug it back in when installing our new headunits I dont actually rember taking it apart though haha.

Even if yours is connected properly the link above will show you how to get it all apart and then you can test the wires directly from the back of the socket.

Beautiful!! Cheers for the write up Matt, will check and report back if mine is the same as soon as I can!

No problem once you know how it all comes apart its easy just a pain that all of the bottom of the dash has to come out for one little thing, hope its a simple solution for you too.

I've had the exact same problem.. Turn's out there was no fuse for it in the fuse box underneath the steering wheel.
