Bad idea to cut springs?

Very dangerous to go cutting springs. If your only after fitting the springs it could take up to a month for them to fully drop in height

extremely dangerous to cut springs for many reasons.
1. If you hit a bad bump in the road spring can drop out.
2. my mate has done it before in a toledo anjd many other in citron xzara and 306's etc and if you going round a corner had teh bounce the back end round.
3. depends where your from mate but if its the uk lately where i live they been taken young driver with lowered cars etc to a mobile or normal MOT centre. If you get caught with cuts its 3points a corner = loose licence

I Presume if you get caught with lowering springs then you will also loose your licence?

Dont talk nonsense

Sorry pal, I'm one of those with a wife! But I woiuld let her go with the the two kids as well, if your'e still interested?:D

Pics of wife still reqd, kids not ideal but deal could be negotiated

...dont cut them. done and done.

...we have corners in the USA, just not on interstate 5, lol blinx!

...didnt the Waltons truck have leaf springs? or are we talking about a pile of leaves under a tree in which a person like me jumps into?

Personally i dont like cut springs have seen many cars with them some handle good some like like s**t.. maybe one or two coils wouldnt be too bad but ive seen people take far too much off them to be safe, go over bump and spring jumps out of shock top!!

Ps Blinx your car is savage!! can i have it?? pleeeaaasssee?? :p

P.S. you never want to cut a spring that is not straight, some springs are barrell shaped like BMW springs, NEVER NEVER NEVER cut these. Ultimately it has to do with your comfort level, if your not comfortable get a used set of lowering springs or sleeve type coilovers and be done with it :nice:

i think he means cut springs, if i had a car come in with cut springs i'd fail it as i'd class the suspension as damaged and dangerous

aye but a lowering spring will drop out aswell when the car is raised up...presume you would fail that too?

Down to the letter yes it could be failed. Last time I fitted lowering springs I had helper springs to use at the same time which stopped the springs falling

sounds like sh1te to me mate:angry:, why would insurance companys cover your car lowered with lowering springs if they weren't legal?

cut springs are **** ive had them in several cars and all handled like buses compare to when i later had to put lowering springs in!

for the price of lowering springs its not worth it:p

if you want your car lower without skimping on quality, but cant afford a decent full coilover setup, then i recommend looking into 'ground control' coilover sleeves. they come with eibach springs (you cant use the eibachs you have at the moment) and you can specify the rates if you know enough about it. also if you want to go low on the oem shocks you can get extended top hats to stop you bottoming out your dampers.

I have in the past removed a coil or two (the coils are wound very close together at the end you chop) from my rear eibach springs used with ITR dampers on my eg6, the spring seated nicely still and wasnt loose on the coil, never did the front as it was low enough already. Was a REALLY nice setup on the eg6, never ever felt the need to change it, and there was no safety issues with that particular setup.

I am now in a similar position with my 98 spec JDM ITR, i have fitted an eibach pro kit, and it seems not much lower than standard, especially the rear. (not as low as i was hoping) but i am not going to cut my springs this time, i'm going to wait until i can afford a 'propper' solution that my teg deserves (which will probably be koni yellows/ground control coilovers/spring rates slightly higher than oem)

Yes you can chop them and it still be safe and handle nice, but it's not garaunteed. Do it the 'right' way, its not called the 'right' way for no reason
