Bad idea to cut springs?

Basically I bought the Eibach Sportlines along with ek9 shocks for my suspension. The sportlines sit higher than I thought they would, just wondering if it's a bad idea to cut a bit off the springs so they sit lower? Would they be safe? Want it to sit like 2.5 cm lower at the back and about 1.5/2cm at the front...

Loads of people used to do this, But if you ask me, which you have i would say don't. At both ends of the spring they are made with flats and the springs sit perfectly into a recess on the shock. Cutting a bit off will make your spring not fit in your shock properly and you risk the spring coming off and your shock collapsing.

Damn, I guess it's a pretty big risk. Reason I am considering doing this is that I don't have the money right now for coilovers. With the money spent on the shocks, springs and fitting I could have bought some:mad:

Don't cut your springs mate. Either get lower springs or get some coilovers!

Would it be a bad idea even if it's only temporary? Will most likely buy some coilovers in like 2months. Just can't stand they height at the moment and don't really want to fit my wheels until the suspensions sorted.

Pictures? I'd like to see how high/low they are on the car

Pics in this thread page 8.

Very dangerous to go cutting springs. If your only after fitting the springs it could take up to a month for them to fully drop in height

Don't think the springs are dropping any lower tbh had these on around a month, a few other members also found they don't drop by much. I guess i'll just have to get myself some coilovers. Thanks for the replys guys!

he means they will look better with a nice set of alloys on i think :)
i wouldn't risk it for the sake of a few months
have you tried closing your eyes as you walk towards your car in the morning?

I know what you mean mate as im a big fan of low cars but it needs to be done properly! If you did cut your springs and one dislocated for whatever reason you could end up making a mess of the car!

Keep your eyes open for a decent second hand set of coilys then you can choose your exact ride hight :)

I take no responsibility for any damage done to you or your car while trying it tho ;)

Won't be cutting the springs guys! I thought it just made the ride bouncy I didn't know there was a chance of the shocks collapsing etc. There was a thread on here about cutting springs and I read that if it was cut peoperly so the springs can sit correctly on the shocks it's safe and that it just makes the ride bouncy. Can't seem to find the thread!

i cut my springs when i first bought the car...was a bit bouncy but looked hella cool, i bought coilovers after about 2 months

...dont cut'em, very "80's" in a very bad way.
get coil overs if anything...or just enjoy what you have.
This is where "looking good" starts to over-take "performance", I guess.
