Anyone on here warped their discs at the Nurburgring?

Whats up guys? I have been doing some searching etc... but in Honda terms I just want to try and gauge just how hard the ring is on brakes? I have pads ordered, Endless ME20 (Circuit compound), And have Endless on the rear. It's front discs I'm worried about, Was considering bringing a spare set as having warped discs in the past it completely ruins driving the car for me! Current discs are blueprint used for one track day and a couple of hundred miles, no warping yet though.

RBF600 has just been bled through the system there too and a cusco stopper is on it's way for some extra confidence.

Anyone have any experience with their brakes at the 'ring they could share?

The ring is not bad on brakes , its a free flowing track so lots of cooling time .

Your issue is not with the discs but a bad pad transfer , or , maybe the hub was not fully clean when fitting the disc , this can have the same effect.

Usually its the fast road / trackday pads that easily give a uneven transfer whether by over heating or improper cool down , and then are unable to clean up the surface due to their lower friction level and materials.

A proper bed in , with sufficient cool down , you wont have any issues.

never been but if it was me I would take as much as I could in the way of spares. It's a long way to drive home if you do have something like that go wrong.

I did once, but that was holding the brakes on the straight coming in. TIT springs to mind!

Did a rear one.

As said the ring has maybe 4-5 hard/long braking points from high speeds and they are all spaced out nicely and over 13miles is no sweat.

In my DC2 282mm discs and Yellowstuff pads worked a treat :nice: The ring is hard on the brakes but nothing a good setup and fresh fluid can't handle :) And of course also depends on driving style.

If its your first time to the ring there is no chance of cooking your brakes. it's too long to learn it to get that brave. unless your a total nutcase and want to crash with a €10000 bill.
IMO a lot of people over plan for nur trip.
Dunx

Duncs is right tbh.
You may feel like your going fast but are you really pushing it? Using the whole track? When I went I thought I was going about as fast as I could. Watched the video and there was loads of time to improve

A good road setup will be fine I use high carbon Brembo disc and ds2500 pads, There are 3 or 4 hard braking points but it will depend on how fast you learn the ring.

Thanks for the replies, It's just I was doing some google searches and forums threads were popping up, mostly clio, citroen, peugeot forums complaining about about warping their discs, just wanted to see the Honda side of things. I have warped a set of discs on the road before in my EJ9 would you believe, But they were cheap motorfactor rubbish. So I don't think I'll bother with a spare set, My local track is about 1:10 a lap with two hard braking points both from about 115-120mph - 35-40mph. they survived that so seems they should be fine on the 'ring with the long cooling periods between the hard breaking points.

And your probably right Dunx about the over prepartion, just would hate something so simple to ruin my time there.

Have bought a 9 lap pass to last me over the two days :nice:.

Sound advice right there! DS2500's were horrible for a uneven transfer IMO, the compound felt too soft.

I can imagine this being an issue as I definitely don't think my DC2 will be lapping the same as my 300bhp N/A one in GT6 lol, although reading the rules and regs I won't be able to strap the gopro up as I'm going on a tourist day :(. Ever bent this rule or you been on a private day?

When I went they lifted this rule. Had people strapping them up to the outside of the cars and all sorts.
I've filmed every lap I've done and nothing's been said.
They can't really police it anyway, you'll just get through the ticket booth and then stop on the main straight to sort the camera out.

Mate unless you have a very fast and/or heavy car and you have 30 plus laps of the ring under your belt you have nothing to worry about.

That sounds like a plan to me! I heard they stopped allowing filming as someone caught a serious accident on camera and posted it online, where apparently it was inappropriate.

That puts my mind at rest, I'm not going out to break any records or strain the car too much, just enjoy myself, but want to make sure the car is robust enough to comfortably do so :nice:

Ye youll be fine on the brakes, lots of cooling between the really hard braking points.

You shouldn't have a problem with your brakes if they are in good condition with a decent set of pads. Particularly when you will be learning the track.

I had no problems with using my GoPro either. There are plenty of signs saying they are prohibited but the marshalls didn't really seem to bother. As long as you are not too obvious with it I predict you will be fine.

Ran new OE discs and Yellowstuff pads on my brother road EK9 at the ring, and did 2 days about 12 laps, no issues with discs. Generally easy on the brakes, i found in the big stopping zones the pads were not hot enough to give that bite.
