Will 97 Ron ( BP Ultimate ) be ok for the EK9?

If you still run rich with 97 RON then your fine. I run 98 RON and still quite rich.

Never use ethanol fuel. V power in AU is 5% ethanol.

Just about everywhere here has 5% Ethanol in their fuel. First reading the octane ya'll were usin I nearly dropped a brick, then I remembered US Octane ratings are different. A lot of places in the US, Premium is 91 but everywhere here in TN is 93. I run Texaco Premium (with Techron) 93 or Shell V-Power 93 in my B16A2 and most people use the same **** in B18C's and B16B's (and many turbo'd motors as well) so it's apparently the same crap as ya'lls just rated differently. 93 is the highest you can find at an average pump. Just about anything higher is Race gas.

PS, I'm NEVER going to an Exxon ever again. My car ran like **** after putting that mess in my tank.

i work fo bp and i can tell you this,

bp ultimate 97 - is made for economy in mind, basically with continual use you can get more mpg out of your vehicle, although extra hp comes as a 'side effect'. i do find that ultimate stays in your tank a bit longer than v-power though.

v-power 99 - has been produced with performance in mind, in tests against esso's, tesco's and bp's super unleaded's it showed to be the least fuel efficient but, did show the biggest power increase, 0-60 0-100 times were improved and so on.

imo i don't really trust bp ultimate in my '9 BUT, i would trust it over any standard 95 RON unleaded. In my '9 it's v-power all the way!
I keep on asking my boss for BP 102 but, she's not havin any of it, anyone tried BP 102, if so tell!:D
:nice:

Wouldn't a car need to be specifically mapped to take advantage of BP 102 or similar race fuels? Certainly would be an added safety measure but shudder to think how much it costs nowadays!

Cheers,
Alex

if 102 is a race fuel, I know it's bad enough here for race fuels. I'm sure it's KILLER on ya'll. I know a bunch of Supra guys that run ridiculous amounts of boost and have to use race gas. They use US 109 or 110 Octane Race Gas and they usually fill up at half a tank and it costs them over $100 USD or so. It costs me $35 USD to fill my EJ6 up completely with US 93 Octane Premium.

Well it's pump fuel but only available at about 6 filling stations in the UK and is aimed at trackday people etc. When it came out it was about £2.45 a litre  or something, so got knows what it's selling for now.

The reference to race gas was just in terms of higher than normal octane ratings, sorry for any confusion.

Cheers,
Alex

Sorry to bring up an old thread but better than raising a new one!

Just wondering if anyone else uses BP Ultimate or Esso 97 ron as V Power prices are just getting ridiculous now! Last I checked was £1.30 a litre and that was last week, I know prices have gone up yet again and will continue to do so :angry2:

Well I'll be filling up for the first time this year soon so not looking forward to it, I'm just grateful I'm not sticking 60litres in the Skyline cos that was getting expensive and that only got me the same mileage as the EK9's 40 litres!!

Used BPU in my R34 for a year with no negative effects, tried a few tanks of T99 but never saw any differences

Yet to try SVP as I have a BP station less than a mile up the road and the only 2 Shell stations are right in the middle of town :(

It's ridiculous! £1.39 near me the other day, I thought they had made a mistake at first :(

AVGas is where it's at.... 125 octane ;)

i used to put Nos octane booster in my little toyota starlet gt and it flew it popped and banged a lot more in the exhaust on over run, but the extra power was easy to feel.
i believe it raises the octane number by 3-4 or 5-6 if you get the race on ei used the road use one.

but 3-4 on top of 99 ron octane is a good 103 octane......i would not use this in my civic but i didn't really care about the starlet.
but from experience octane boosters do work very well...

BP Ultimate costs more than V-power around where i live.
128.9p i paid a ltr for V-power yesterday, tesco99 is at 127.9

BP Ultimate makes my EK9 run like ****, It runs better on Shell 95 or Total 97.
My car also runs like mega **** on Tesco 95 but thats only been in twice when the petrol stations where all running dry a while back.

Difference in opinions so far then. The other day I've put £35 of Esso Super UNleaded and it seems fine so far. It was at £128.9 but not sure what V Power has gone up to at my local Shell

I find BP Ultimate is good but overpriced, not as good as Tesco99 "Momentum" Which is also alot cheaper! also shell V-Power is that 98? is good aswell! My Ek9 never see's 95ron, but when i had my ek4 early in its like it used to get "normal" fuel and just wasn't as good as the higher octane stuff!

What octane booster were you using? I i saw a review, i think on 5th gear where they tried loads of various additives and most of them actually made a loss of about 1-3hp, and none showed any gains ??

V-power is 99ron :nice:

Cheers dude, wasnt sure if it was 98 or 99, Either way V-Power and Tesco99 (momentum) are the best! Ill only but BP ultimate in or TEXACO Advanced or whatever they are if i cant get to a shell or tesco in time :nice:

Mine runs on Tesco 99 as it's pretty much the only SUL garage on the Isle of Wight (couple of independants sell some unknown 98 stuff at about £50 a litre).

My car seems to run fine on it. 'Only' 136p litre too, lovely stuff. To be honest I didn't notice much difference with Tesco 95 in it, but I took it pretty gentle with that tank as it was during the cold snap.

136?! for Tesco? I thought that was the cheaper stuff?

Couple of months ago I filled pretty much a full tank of V Power, only to get told that a few days after, they had a deal for 1 day where it was 5p of a litre on V power! I still went but couldn't really fill much as I'd full tanked it a few days before!
