Hey all, well been reading some threads etc and people saying should be using 99 ron fuel?

iv only got a bp near me so best can get is 97 Ron BP Ultimate ? I do have a tesco but heard there 99 Ron isnt very good!

just wanna make sure that ill be fine using the BP stuff?

:nice:

Got no experience with that fuel im afraid. I drive about 20 miles to get vpower.

Devon can be a tricky place to get V Power. Tesco 99 will be fine really, I've used it in mine, and the previous owner used it all the time.

I've not used BP Ultimate in my EK9, but I've used it in my JDM RX-7 with no problems.

Considering EK9's have been around before 99 octane was available in the UK, I'd expect 97 octane fuel to be ok. Just don't go near regular ;)

Cheers,
Alex

mine seems to prefer shell v power or esso super unleaded as oppose to bp ultimate, dunno why it just does?!?!?

It's ok to use at a push mate but try and use 99 v power ,remember the ek9 was mapped for 100 ron from the factory

Mine smoked a bit with Sainsbury's 97. I always use Tesco 99 or V-power.

Just a pointless fact here lads, sainsburys super unleaded is BP ultimate

Mine's always seemed alot happier on V-Power than anything else, its all I'll use these days!!

Lol, I have to use BP Ultimate as the nearest shell is an hour away and our tesco's doesn't sell the 99 super only the 96... :(

why isnt it ok to use regular fuel???

we have 95 octane i think...

is it cos of lack of power or what?

I agree, it's better to use as near to Jap fuel quality as possible, but the point I was trying to make was Jap cars ECUs have a degree of flexibility built into their maps so they can cope with lesser quality fuel, otherwise every import would need an aftermarket ECU and be mapped for 97-99 octane fuel before they could run.

As for using V Power, in North Devon at my parent's place the nearest Shell garage is either out near Tiverton or Oakhampton way which just isn't practical so I know where people are coming from in needing an alternative.

Cheers,
Alex

Octane is added as a detonation preventative, so if it can the car's ECU will retard the timing to prevent det, which as a side effect will reduce power and efficiency of the engine. Worse quality of fuel, more timing retard needed (if even within the ECU's range), and 5 octane points is quite a lot...

millers CVL is well reported as an octane booster throughout track day entusiasts,

i suggest if you can only get 95 ron you start looking down teh octane booster route,

we used to use silkolene pro boost in out MX bikes also

I use Esso super with no problems. Also used it in my skyline for 2 years with no problems.

i only use V-Power used BP ultimate for 2 tanks and it preffered V-Power

i must say i've not tried it on v power done it on BP Ultimate and general jungle juice and can tell the difference considerably - i even get more miles from ultimate... but having read this i'll try v-power

Of course it will be fine on 97Ron, it would even be ok to run on 95Ron fuel as there is a degree of flexibility, specifically with your car being NA it doesnt matter as much.

Was wondering why I saw a BP truck at the sainsburys petrol station the other day. lol
