why are ek9's so expensive?

put it this way, i owned mine for 3years then got rid of it, now i cannot find any car under £12k that i would want to replace it with, nothing for the money even comes close. Evo's etc are all good in the dream world untill you find out how much it costs just to keep it on the road, ek9 is simple old fashion fun straight out the box. Don't expect them to drop in price anymore either as the value in parts will always remain high so people will start breaking more and more untill the car's value as a whole starts to rise again. The only cheap one's i seem to come across are close to or over 100,000 miles

in your first post you say about them having 60k on the clocks...
this does eqaute to just 4000 miles a year... so this might be why you are finding them expensive.. thats a very low mileage for a 1996 car..

I dó think they are a bit expensive for what you get (getting cheaper though atm), bút they're one of a kind car. The reason I believe they are relatively expensive for what you get is that you have to pay the "scene tax" ;)

One advantage is that they're relatively cheap to drive though! Compared to a Supra, Impreza, Evo, RX7 etc.

I do really want one and it will be a very well looked after summer car and no doubt i will spend thousands onit like i did my ep3 and make it into a project. My insurance cheque should hopefully be coming through this week so i will keep my eyes peeled for a nice clean one :D They put a smile on my face just watching the videos on YT. The aggressive vtec makes me *** wee haha. Cheers Guys.

Its simple ek9s are king of the road! You can never get tired of them as there is endless thing to do! Now theres plenty of b18 and some k20 ek9s around! There just so much fun and they are a rare care especially if your comparing with the ep3! Most people put a fortune into them and they just hold value better than other cars that are trashed!

I'm all about the feeling and how fun a car is to drive, yeh you could go a lot of faster for your money, further up the years etc... But to me, nothing beats the feeling of driving a Honda on the limit. I'm just like that though. Feeling part of the car, savage vtec and the noise is worth the premium if you ask me. People think your mad etc.. for being into such old cars especially civics. But it's what I love. Fair enough I don't have a 9. But my dad had a JDM for a few years which i used a few times and I have 1999 SiR ek. But I love it and don't want anything else and I know i've turned 20, But have experienced quite a few high powered cars. Honda=Smiles :nice:. Go test drive on I say:)

They're rare, fun to drive and look good. Have all the fancy parts, reliable and the engines are on another level. So aggressive for 4 cylinder NA's and run forever if cared for properly. Only downside to EK9's is they can start to rust and the steering has virtually no feel which doesn't inspire much confidence but none the less they handle amazing and feel very composed. It has to be one of the most back to basics complete hatchback out there.

Supply and Demand :nice:
Best answer so far. :)

It may be expensive on some places and countries, but they are also cheaper on other parts of the world like Asia. Most especially on Japan, they sell a good example of our Civic type r as low as 500 - 550K JPY. Now you do the math. ;)

Actually, I stayed in Tokyo before, and noticed the demands of our EK9 is not strong compared to those outside Japan though. Popular enthusiasts cars there are more on the Nissan side with their sportscar line up, then comes cars like Evos, Stis, RX-7, AE86, Supra, S2k, NSX, etc. etc.

If I'm right, roughly 120jpy is like £1??
Seriously, that's fudged up!!

If its 500JPY and not 50000 or 500000 then that is £4.11 according to currency converter

I dont own a 9 but i have a dc2 integra and it such a different league of car.
The vtec in the b series is insane, the handling is outstanding and the looks is just eye porn.... exactly the same as an ek9.
Fair do's its pretty dear for a 14/15 year old car but what you're buying is one of a kind.
Gaurantee you, the difference between driving an ep3 and an ek9 is like night and day.

I had the choice of an ep3 and a ek9, the ek9 is in its own league, i sold my 27k mile car, for a 50-70k car, will probably last longer too!

ek9 built in Japan, ep3 made in swindon... never rode a jdm ep3 tho, think those are sweet too!

Shoot. That's 500,000 JPY. I was to write 500K on it. Sorry. :p Editing now. You may do the math again. hehe.

Even with age it's EK9 for me as well over the EP3. It has suffered bad criticism among enthisiasts around the world just after its release even though it is more "powerful"? :) Even the sedan version of it (ES) is not so popular as well.
