Thinking of poss breaking mine to regain as much monies as poss, as the price am selling it ATM I'm making quite a loss.:(

What would people say a PRE EK9's worth with around 112,00 MILES AND usual 9er spec.

It's a car, cars depreciate. Sell it at a loss and don't break another decent 9! :(

please dont break man, by the time I can afford to insure a 9 there will be no decent ones left :(

If your going to make more money breaking it why wouldn't you?? Forget wat other people say " don't break another 9" etc end of the day it you that out of pocket...

Have to agree with this.. There is tough times with money so what ever you have to do to make the most money back do it mate. But try sell. That is what I am going to do.

What's the difference? Say selling whole you get £4k in one lump sum. Breaking, you'd get the absolute ballache of dealing with daydreamers, no-hopers and general timewasters, the hassle of packaging, arranging couriers, getting shafted by scammers and having a scrap car on the driveway making you look like a pikey to all the neighbours, all to get what, maybe £5k over the course of 6 months?

I'd take that £4k in a heartbeat.

I have to say this guy makes some sense to me :D hehe
Thats the line i would follow if it became a must!

Last thing I wanna do is break it, too much hassle but if the cars gonna sell for pennies that might be the only option. No doubt if I broke it, someone would re-shell it again but hope it wont come to that. What my 9's priced at is cheap already but some people still want it cheaper:shocked:

What have you got it up for?

I think some people here seriously seem think that the bottom of the market is £5k for these cars, and that at anything less they are 'losing money'. As great as these cars are, they are just a Civic at the end of the day and they are commanding premiums well over their material worth, they they will have to continue dropping in value. OK, pulling them apart will make the ones left more valuable but but a neglible amount TBH.

They are a long, long way off being an appreciating classic. You can pick up DC2s now for under £3k, some even approaching £2k. EK9s WILL depreciate to that point eventually. Well I hope they do anyway, they way they are going all we will have left is EJ9 reps...

Just bear in mind those points I raised about breaking a car. It is a ballache, it's time consuming and you'll probably end up with less left over once it's all gone than you would have done if you sold it whole and put that towards your next motor. While it is certainly worth it if you have a highly modified or crashed 9, for a factory car it is certainly not as easy as slapping an extra grand on the value of your car.

I'm sure every EK9 owner who actually cares about their car buys the car thinking that they will make a loss, it is difficult to maintain an EK9 and that's what so many people get it wrong. I think you should accept the fact that you will sell it as a lost but you know that you maintained it well and should be proud of that when you sell it

It's up for £3700 ATM, Black PRE. Good condition for 14 years old and cared for like the best of the 9's out there. Engine and Box are sweet as honey:drive:

I think it's just the price they are going down to now, they are not immune to depreciation and a car is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it, if none of them are selling at the moment, then it reflects the market and the prices have to drop. Even £3700 is still a premium for a car of that age, some of the equivalents are well in to the sub £2k range now. The price difference between an EK9 and a 306 GTi-6 would certainly have me swaying towards the Pug if I was in the market!

People telling you the car is well under priced do not help matters either. Personally I think people should refrain from making such comments on FS threads, if they have no intention on buying the car then they should have no input on it's price, it only gets people thinking that they are 'losing out' and would be better off breaking it.

I would happily see the mods enforce a ban on posting in FS threads unless you are a serious buyer TBH.

£3700 is prob a fair price for the car, with the mileage etc

A year ago when i was looking for mine, there was nothing worth looking at under £4,500 imo, just shows how much they have lost in the past year.

You may also find it harder to sell this type of car at the moment, with it coming into winter, as many people will not be using there EK9 during the cold months.

£3700 is quite cheap for an ek9. In Malta we buy them for €10.000 and even €15.000 since they are quite rare here.

Ek9 braking should be banned and who ever wants to do it should leave this forum and not use the forum to make a few hundred pounds more then what they can get for the car as a whole.

Lol then where would the forum users get their parts from?

The hard truth is that people are broke and old cars are selling for less money, especially now the winter is approaching. Look on the bright side excellent cars will be available for sensible money - when you buy a car you dont expect it to increase in value, you buy it to either enjoy or to get you to work each day (or both).

I have decided to keep mine after I realized that all I would get is just over £3000, however that is a sad reality, I saw a ropey 9 for £2000 on Gumtree the other day, they are simply not worth what they used to be and it is unlikely to change any time soon due to petrol and mainly insurance prices going thru the roof. It is however a great time if you want to ''restore'' your 9 which is what I have decided to do - plenty cheap parts around!
