hi guys looking at coilover and have found some ebay ones for 170 pounds i no you get wat you pay for but i dont want to spend 500 pound on some as i dont use my car for track i just want it for looks and handling is a bonus have anyone came across these before and would you recommend them as i dont want to buy them and a week later the seals pop or something here is the link cheers HONDA CIVIC/ CRX 91-00 COILOVER SUSPENSION KIT | eBay UK

I'll be honest, I haven't even clicked the link. Plain and simple, NO. There's a few things on a car (a lot actually) that you SHOULD NOT compromise with. Tyres are a great example, suspension is another. You simply don't go snide on your suspension, if you want budget coilover's, don't even think about anything sub £500. I'd be more worried along the lines of snapping a strut mid corner, never mind needing a rebuild

Wouldn't touch them with a barge pole!

You state you want them for 'handling' these will have such a negative effect on ride quality and handling i'd rather stick with the oem setup!

At the end of the day you get what you pay for dude, quality and longetivity will suffer with cheap items, I'd advice saving your money until you can afford a brand name that has had research and development done there items!

You can always keep an eye out for second hand set of good coilovers.

oem will be 10x better than these ever will..
as said if it means paying out £500 to get something decent i would:nice:

if you want them just for looks for that kind of money mate you would be much better off just buying a good set of lowering springs ...:D

go for it and report back to us when your car is fooked and lying in a field because the cheap ass crap coilovers bounced you off the road, through someones garden and into a field. They are crap is all aspects, but as your going for stance over performance you'll propably be fine. :nice:

I'd rather cut my springs then put them on my car. You will probably get the same affect. Certain death to yourself and car.

my mate bought a set of cheapos for his audi a3. a couple months later the fluid had all leaked out the seal and there was a stupid amount of play in the strut. buy them for looks, but never for reliability and handling.

A few years ago i tired some ebay jobs. The handling was so bad that i gave up with the car and sold it in the end. They where terrible! Do not skimp on handling or brakes or engine parts or safety.... Just don't skimp full stop. If you can't afford decent ones save up untill you can or buy some good springs.

EG 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, EH 6+9, EJ 1+2) From:07/91 > 09/95 / Euro Performance Car Parts

that makes two of us :nice:

utter bullcrap replies people just because it hasnt got a fancy name and arent £500 doesnt mean they are crap. People are on their high horse, no offense intended

they are cheap and will do what you want them to perfectly and will do a lot more if you need them to. There may be a few instances of cheap coilovers leaking but then D2's are common for leaking...? They are a little harsh ride but i can cope with that

Buy them, whats the worst that can happen...in a year you might need a new shock IF one leaks or develops a fault but you can buy another new set for 150quid so i cant see the problem there

I compete in UK-ODC with these exact coilovers on my e36 bmw and they have done 4 wholes days at santa pod without fault, those of you that know what the left side car park at pod is like will know the ridiculous drain holes and bumps are like, all of which i hit regularly at speed sideways putting massive loads through them. Search for my started threads and you'll see the car in question sideways and decked:woot:

I'd hardly call it getting on my high horse! They look ****. They sound ****. They're priced like ****. They are ****.

It's essentially like asking if wearing Crocs to run a marathon is a good idea, because your not too worried about blisters, just want to look like a tw*t.

OP, I'm not saying you want to look like a tw*t, or your an idiot or anything. Just putting them into context for you ;)

Yeah ok these are good :nice:

What research/development and testing would have gone into these?

There cheap for a reason, inferior materials used because it's cheaper to buy and no develoemt! If he brought them for £150 like you said then had to buy another set in a years time, why not just buy a decent brand named second hand ones the first time round???

Think about it logically! There not going to be good no matter how much you defend them :nice:

I kinda disagree, I've gone past the stage of buying cheap parts because that's all I could afford.. I save and wait now! But I did buy cheap eBay coilovers for my old BMW 3series once and they were great, they lowered it perfectly, handled great.. Completely changed the way the car felt for the better and I had them on for two years.. With no problems.

I tend to agree with windymiller & lowjoe here. Just beacuse they dont have a big price tag & are not so called jdm it doesnt mean they are no good. If you dont have £500 plus to spend on a set of coileys and are on a low budget these are ideal, a few folk i know who have got these say they are great for the money & have had no problems with them. If you are just buying them for looks then go for it.
