turbocharging an ek9 with b18..

I Believe I may have met he CRX guy your talking about. (at sata pod)

Sounds like you have a good overall setup planned :nice:

Im abit confused as to wether i need uprated sleeves or not? if i need to have the stock sleeves rebored for oversized pistons, say .5 oversize, will they sleeves still be strong enough?

and also is a block gaurd essential?

thanks again

I personally have stock sleeves and i am .5mm overbore (81.5mm b16a) making 333whp and revving to 9000rpm, its plenty safe. Blockgaurds are worthless.

hi chaps..

right been doing some research since i last posted, and have ordered some bits from the states.. i also picked up a B18C4 bottom end. after speaking to various honda turbo boys most seem to rate the stock sleeves unless goung for silly power ie 550bhp+.. so il be sticking with the stock sleeves with a .5mm / .20" overbore.

wiseco 81.50mm (+.020" Overbore) compression 8.6:1 - 8.9:1
cometic head gasket
acl crankshaft bearings
arp head studs
genuine honda oil pump
genuine honda water pump
genuine honda timing belt

what i want to know is if the oil pump ive ordered is the correct one? part number is 15100-P72-A01 its a USDM pump, apprerently the only difference is they have a crank sensor hole in the pump where as the JDM one does not.. now im guessing the hole can just be blanked off..? (hoping lol)

the next thing il need is a decent clutch, had an ACT paddle in my starlet and didnt find it too bad for everyday use.. so looking at getting one for this build, but theres quite a few types, so can anyone recomend one that holds decent power but isnt too bad for every day use and traffic??

cheers -dan :)

the sensor hole on the pump doesnt affect anything and doesnt need to be blanked as its just a mounting hole. all three sensors you need are in your distributor so dont worry.

As for clutch, Ive been using a 6-puck sprung ACT for the past 24k at 378whp without problems. :nice: Make sure you get a sprung clutch otherwise it takes alot away from the ride and as others have said dont spare any expense!

I think its actually a typo, i have never seen a T35, most likely a GT35

I think the T35 is something the ford boys used. There matched up 2 turbos and called it a T35 but it isnt actually a factory turbo.

thanks mate. dont worry i wont be skimping on any parts, ive built a fair few engines now and im one of these people who prefer's to do things properly fom the beginning to save any probs happening later down the line :)

here is a vid of the crx i was talking about earlier in action

clicky

I had a chance to drive it later in the day and trust me its fookin quick :shocked::shocked::shocked:

couple more Q's chaps..

is it ok to use the teg type r flywheel on the b18c4 crank? (obviously having it all balanced)

and does the b18 have a scatter tray? as someones had the sump off this b18c4 so i dont know wether it has one or not...?

this is a b16 with one, not sure if b18 has one or not?

Looking good:nice: I'm going to be doing something very similar so I'm looking forward to your build.

Yes. But I would use something lighter - unless your budget is already all burned up.

B18 has one too.

starting the build this weeken assembling the bottom end, will be runi AFI turbo kit with ramhorn mani and 3" downpipe. t3/t4e 57 trim for starters and see how we get on with that for now.. turbo kit should be here next week so should have this built and running within the next month. :nice:
