A quick backround, im getting a Uk spec VTI soon (before next year i hope but my son is joing us in the world in sep so not to sure on exact date) and plan a long ongoing project in my garage whilst i drive the mrs 1.1 saxo, crimal i know. But I want to plan it properly before i get the car and start spending/wasting money. I have allways loved ITB mainly the sound and the look as i dont expect to have huge funds for a turbo setup or engine transplant i think this would be best for my wallet and make me very happy.

Just want to put it out there and see if anyone has any experence with ITB or knows any does and donts etc.

EK9Turbo i may be chatting with you as i like the sound of your 280BHP stroker kit but like i said before im not cetain on anythink with the engine as there are so many optoins.

I know what im gonna do for INT/EXT styling ( Not much as civics are dam nice standard ) and for supsension. But any sugestions for engine setups etc would be welcome my budget for the engine would be around £3-4000 all in otherwise the Mrs will cry as she wants a house lol.

So once again to ITB or not to ITB that is the question. :D

What engine size does the VTI have? Not sure on gains, throttle response will be much improved. On a Clio 172 (Totally standard), using the Jenvey kit gains of 40bhp/30lbft were seen, but it is a 2L, I know its not a Honda but its the experience I have seen for myself. Do you plan to track the car? As with TB's & an aftermarket exhaust it can get real loud, the noise is a special one though. :D

it will cost you 3000 to get itb`s on ethre time you bought your aftermarket ecu and mapping stc,, all you will gain is noise and you may loose fuel economy, personally i wouldnt botehr, ITB`s are an icing on teh cake modification once you already have a built powerfull motor.. :nice:

im sure u can turbo civics for £3000-4000 dont know that much about turboing them or how good it will be. im all for n/a but n/a tunning costs ££££££

itb set ups dont cost the earth if your going to get most parts second hand, but you got to be carefull what your buying,
but on a stock /mild tuned b16a2 not much will be gained,
start you project by swapping to a b18c(itr) engine for easy gains and build on it

I have ITB's on my EK9 N1 race car with B16b. They were tuned with Hondata S300 and custom header and exhaust and made 175hp at the wheels (standard everything else). While this may not seem like much, the torque figure was flat through the whole rev range, and sat between 380-400Nm!

Worth it, but fuel economy is rubbish. In 5 Laps of the A1GP circuit in Taupo New Zealand the car will go through at 10 litres of fuel, but that's with the revs constantly above 6000rpm+.

Maybe not worth it for a street car, but for race applications can't be beat.

Id say they are better for track cars than street cars!!!

Thanks for your coments guys, it will be kept as a second car for track and the odd weekend blast il need it after driving a 1.1 all week.

Timmiblc those torque figures are amazing but how do you find driving it to the circuit or do you tow it on a trailor ?

Im thinkin about cost to and with a turbo its hard to get more power for ya £. Blinx's or EK9Turbo what sort of kit and power/reliability do you think you could get from a B16a2 for £4000/$8000 ?

I dont nessacerly want huge power as reliability would be my main concern as il have to drive it home after a track day.

It's hard to say since I'm in USA and here parts cost less, ek9turbo should be able to give you more accurate figure and source parts more easily if you need them as he is in UK like most of the other members.

but if you were in USA $8000usd could get you:

-shortblock rebuild with new bearings, forged pistons and forged rods $1500
-good turbo kit with ball bearing turbo $3700
-hondata S300, fuel pump, injectors $1300

thats only $6500 so far

add a 3" exhuast for about $400, upgrade your rad and fan for another $400, + $300 for dyno tuning and your good for about 500bhp and you still have $400 left over. This is assuming you can do all the installation yourself. Unfortunately if you have to pay for labor it can still be done you would just have to be more wise in spending money on the parts, I'm sure in UK this would cost A LOT more!

NOTE: i am not quoting you prices, trying to sell you anything or offering a service, this is just what the average person with mechanical skills could do in USA with that budget.

I think a Type R IM and lucas type Injectors will give you more than enough for the street.

All motor is not a bad idea either, turbo honda's are not for the faint of heart, they are very in depth and can require A LOT of attention. RagingAngel has had great success with ITB's as have other users, as long as you have enough compression, your cams can move the air and you have a capable tuner you should be fine :nice:

I used to drive it to the track, but now it has a 4.929 final drive it's a bit of a screamer. At 60mph (100km/h) it sits at 4,000rpm+. I have the standard exhaust which I can just swap on and off, but lately I really can't be arsed so I just trailer it :)

Good fun though, it'll easily see off an evo or wrx, especially around corners :drive: and especially with semi slick tyres :nice:

And all the better to pat the bonnet later and know it's still only a 1600.

Once again thanks for your comments, now im at a crossroads on the one hand i really would like the power of a turbo for my track wepon but I cant help thinking that if i went this road i would end up spending alot more than i first expected. On the other I could for 4000 build a Na monster! Once built and after convincing my mrs that i need throtle bodies and not a morgage i could have in my eye's a dream car. Plus i wont be driving it every day so the fuel consumption etc wont be a factor.

Im fairly confident when it comes to cars as i was welding on my dads metro (UK piece of crud) at 10 and i changed my Head gasket on my rover (first car) myself after work at 17 im 23 now and do all the work on my civic but still dont think id want to build my first turbo car in fear of spending weeks building it then blowing it up. Thus i think my labour billl would be quite high.

I think im jus gonna have to do some more reserch into what i can get for my money over here for a NA or Turbo setup as im confident with the NA i could do 90% of the work myself just leaving the tunning to the pro's. Il speak to EK9Turbo and see what he can offer and if its out of my price bracket il just stick with a solid NA setup with a view to getting ITB last like Oli said the icing on the cake.

Cheers guys and please anyone who thinks they can help build a good parts list for a NA car post it as im not an expert and havent done it before so any sugestions welcome.

P.s Dont worry Blinx i know your olny giving me and idea and trust me it helps i know ya not quoting or selling etc so cheers again for the help.
