Hi,
i have a little Question about the spoon ECU.
What does it do?
I have been reading a little and from what i interpreted, is that:
- its mapped to spoon parts only, therefore, when bolting on spoon exhaust, cams, header, huge benefits can be achieved without having to map the car again; as its tuned for this manufactures parts.

is this true or am i completely off?
also, does it remove the limiter?
i ask this, because i am getting a 9 soon, and i have a aem v1 induction kit currently at home from my ek4. was just wondering whether it would be best/ beneficial to keep it or sell it on.
any help will be most helpful:)
Thanks

hey there.i have a spoon ecu and i got told off the spoon technician it is mapped to run with a 4-2-1 manifold, decat ,intake and spoon throttle body.i i have all these mods and it works really well.my car has more go at 7500-8400 than standard ecu.the revs is also reset to 9100rpm and vtec point down to about 5700-5800rpm.:nice:

thanks for the reply, however, is it true that it will not be as beneficial if spoon parts are not used?
what will happen if i decided to use a 4-1 mani instead?
what are the +'s to a spoon ecu over a stock one?

is it worth getting?
thanks for the help in advance

well i have the spoon throttle body and my intake is js racing and manifold is dc 4-1 manifold.it is better than stock but what i don like about it is the vtec point been lowered the vtec kick in point is not as agressive than stock.when vtec kicks in it feels more finer and smooth rather than bang and you away.but when it gets 6100rpm it pulls really hard all the way to about 8500.i would give it 6 out of 10 rating:D

i have seen it in use... i was told that it is simular to the honda ecu. its learns as it goes. so if over fueling for example it corrects, the ignition map is excellent and really gets more power esp torque. i rate it highly. very fast. i think as good as a proper mapped power fc...

Spoon ecu is better than stock, but i prefer to buy a ecu with a base map suited for my engine :woot:

why not buy an ecu that can be tuned and retuned everytime you change a mod? like fcon/aemems/powerFC etc...

Yea, that's correct, how can you be 100% sure that tuning the ECU will be your last mod???

maybe not but a spoon 1.6 ek9 ecu was placed into a stock ek9 and dynoed and ran at 190bhp, perfect fuel ratio... running well, thta same car then got a full ss exhaust and a spoon 1.8l stroker kit.... and the same 1.6litre ecu was used and dynoed, it got 209 bhp... and fuel was nearly perfect, just a little lean at 8500.... not bad... this ecu learns... i highly recommend it... spoon are gods.. oh then he ran the 1.8 spoon ecu... the car got even faster... no dyno yet..

I rate the spoon ecu very highly, 1 of my mates just put his in2 his teg type r engine, made a huge huge difference over standard.. it runs a bit rich on fuel however and can cause it 2 burn oil..... for racing though u wont get better...

a ritch mixture should not affect oil burn off. and at the INSANE price of $1300!! im sure you can get something better, i would prefer even a greddy emanage ultimate over a chipped stock ecu for that price. i also believe you can get a powerFC for that price, and powerFC is A LOT more powerful than spoon chipped ecu.

were not talking about a spoon chipped ecu were talking about a spoon ecu.. there is more suttle diffs than just a small chip.....

the oil was being burnt because the fuel was so rich it seeped past rings into oil and diluted oil... thats how it burnt...... lol

the spoon ecu IS a stock ecu that has been chipped by spoon.

as far as oil burning, running ritch still wont cause you to burn oil, fuel cannot leak out past the rings into the oil, its the other way around, oil leaks through the rings into the combustion chamber.

for 1300 $ I'll go for the apexi power fc + commander

How did you find the SPOON chip? i found it wasn't making any power between 5000rpm-5800rpm. Power then piled on hard from 6000rpm. It was like a stall zone where the power just stops climbing from 5000rpm and stalls till 5800rpm which then started buliding on hard, then 6000rpm you can feel the power shooting up...

I've interchanged it back to J's Racing and J's chip definitely accelerates faster!!

I'll be looking into a tunable ecu in the future...

aem ems gets my vote if you have a tuner who can tune it :nice: whatever you buy just make sure you have more than 2-3 competent tuners in the area who are fimiliar with your ems(just in case something happens to one).

That aint easy in Perth... The most formidable tuner that I've heard of is Australia's TODA Chief... He said he was coming over sometime this year from sydney or melbourne( I can't remember)... I wanted to purchase TODA stage 2 cams kit and Sports injection... I couldn't believe the price for that injection kit and the amount of work needed... crazy!!:wow:

does the spoon ecu move the rev limit to 9100?? so with these block braces that allow you to rev to 11,000 do you need a different ecu?
