Safe power?

Sell ur b16b and get a b18c4 dude, b16b is just too much compression, but still it could take up to 300

My mate spoke to Henry Roy about turbocharging his b16a2 to be told quite simply that an eBay turbo kit and a few essentials (bigger injectors etc) will see over 300bhp (He estimated 330ish going by others he's done). He has mapped 24 eBay kits's and only 2 have came back due to blowing the cheap Chinese turbo's! Not much to replace them either, and I'd take the word of a man in Honda legend folklore. As long as its mapped by someone who knows what they are doing (like the aforementioned HR), you'll be able to run one at the 300bhp mark all day long.

Henry Roy mapped my b16 on standard internals. Certaintly wasn't a eBay turbo kit it it did make 327bhp and then de-tuned to 296bhp @ 11psi. It ran perfect, only problem it had was the manifold. Henry Roy is the man.

These days it isnt the turbo you should worry about, its the tin foil manifolds. And theres no point welding them either.

Cheap, power, reliability. Pick 2 and sacrifice the third.;)

Naturally you've to expect a few issues with a cheap turbo  I wasn't saying go out and buy the cheapest things you can find, just showing that the engines can handle it!

Yep i know, was just saying as there was talk of them a couple posts above.

The engines can handle it, but for how long? Cheap, power, reliability;)

My supercharger melted long before the engine did  was running not far off 300 for a couple of years and the engine is still without a single issue!

Just wondering alot of people are saying sell b16b and get a 4 cos of more power could you not go.low comp with pistons and rods and thicker head gasket ?? That would take more than the the stock c4 or b16a ?? Just thought id ask.because the b16b have the best heads etc etc and you could run alot more boost with lower compression

Just to clear this up..

Say if my b16b running at 8psi is making 250bhp, but then if I turn to boost up to 10psi and it runs at 280bhp, this is still safe as it does not exceed 300bhp?

what turbo do you have? I recommend you to stay with 8psi...

dont think its the HP that matters. its more the pressure in the cylinders you need to be careful of.

big pressure on the cylinder walls causing them to move, heat in the cylinders, det etc.

i went in with mine for mapping and all i said is i want the reliability not pub figures. the map i have is very conservative and could be pushed hella lot more but i wanted it held back soon as its a daily and makes more power than i thought it would have.

end of the day the stock engine was never made to see boost. the more you push the more id be keen to have a spare block to build just incase.

if you want decent figures try and support it with good cooling (I/C, oil cooler, rad, regular servicing)

Ah right ok I am not planning on doing it as my car isnt running well as it is.

I do have a b16a available so can build that up slowly.

name the power you would like if you have a goal and the base the parts on that.

you can always buy for futureproof if you have a itch later on.

So if you wanted 350whp is that realistic on a b16b with je pistons 8.5.1 eagle conrods arp head studs gt3076r duel ballbarin turbo a good turbo manifold oil cooler kit and a good thick headgasket ???

you dont need a thick head gasket if you have low comp pistons, the dangerous side of a turbo b16b is the high comp pistons, hence if you lower the compression its just as safe as any other turbo b series engine.

Ow rite thats good I wasnt to sure plus you have a better head than the c4 or b16a

Thanks blinx for the advice
