There have been a lot of posts regarding stroking the B16B recently, and with Spoon announcing that the stroker kit will be available again in Europe I'm guessing a few of us on here will be going down this route.

As far as I've been able to tell is will cost £831 - 10% for us ek9.org members
so £831
- £83.10
= £747.90

Now my car is a facelift EK9, stardard performance wise bar a Twinloop and the above price seems reasonable for the bhp/tprque increase a B18 gives; my question however is what is an approximate figure to have the stroker kit installed and running.

Base Install; safe running

Spoon sports stroker kit £747.9
B18 ECU £?????
Professional Installation £?????
Anything else needed £?????

Optimal Install (Bit more in the bank)

B16 intake/exhaust would be restricting flow of B18 so need upgrading. Does fuelling need to be improved also ? Any other ideas ?

Spoon sports stroker kit £749.9
B18/Aftermarked header £?????
Induction kit £?????
Hodata S300 £?????
Anything else £?????
Fitting and mapping £?????

I know many of you are mechanics or enthusiasts, but I am rubbish with a spanner and don't have the skills to start taking apart my 9, I know there is a wealth of DIY knowledge on stroking on this forum and others, but I am looking for an idea of how much a garage / one of you talented lot would charge for this.

Thanks for any input
Chris

from memory u'll need;
Head gasket = £47 from honda
Timing belt =approx £60
Block re-hone =around £40
or oversized bore if high mileage = approx £100 (oversized pistons required for this)
New oil and filter =approx £30 depending on brand etc
Full big end bearing kit if not included with stroker kit very expensive if you use genuine honda bearings. Acl bearings = £120 delivered from america
Full big end gasket set, not essential but definately recomended, unsure of price.
Ecu i would use a standard p73 ecu = approx £100 (used)
B18c throttle body (not essential) =approx £120 (used)
Dc2 98 spec exhaust manifold (again not essential but with 2.5" collector) = approx £150 (used)

That should be all u'll need. As for professional fitting i could only guess but i'd guess somewhere in the region of £1k+
Best option is to find someone who know's what they're doing and ask them to help you do it yourself

Does anyone know when the spoon stroker kit will be released again for Europe?

if thats the case scrap that....your almost near the cost of a BC stroker kit at that (ie something that will give you real power gains, not just bring it up to stock B18 level)

More details of this stroker kit? I presume you mean buddyclub? I would rather take the Spoon kit personally.

Interesting, a 84.5mm crank, I was expecting one of those 95mm drag racing kits. Not going to make more power than an 87mm B18 crank without a lot of extra work though.

Yeh I thought the same, especially when it says 1.9L but below it it says you have the option of 84.5mm, 92mm or 95mm stroke.

84.5 x 84.5 gives you 1895cc.

I am seriously interested in that kit, in a B16B that would make an awesome setup.

What is Crower quality like?

That setup would need sleeving yes, hence my comment about it not making more power than a B18 without a lot of extra work. On the standard 81mm bore the 92mm gives 1896cc and the 95mm gives 1958cc. They'd give more torque but wouldn't rev all that well and imagine they'd wear out piston rings pretty quick. Anything over the 87mm B18 crank seems to be a high torque, low rev US drag racing setup.

A square 84.5 x 84.5 would be awesome though, perfect blend of low and top end power. I've just specced up the perfect setup but it needs some custom rods and pistons as they don't do the 84.5mm kit for the B18C/B16B block.

Seems the 84.5mm crank won't fit either, being designed for the B16A it won't fit the B16B/B18C main crank journals.

Shame, that would have been a good engine. :(

The BC stuff is top quality. Im building up a 95mm stroke 85mm bore B series soon, might not rev as high as a B16B but Ill put money on it not needing the extra revs.

Definitely won't need it, but to me a low revving torquey engine somewhat ruins the appeal of a Honda, the revs are the main thing that sets them apart from other manufacturers! Each to their own and that though.

sounds great, will look forward to seeing this! love how you always do the unique builds Gerry, or should I say first to do them then everyone copies!lol

Same here, to me they've always been and always will be about the high rpm. But like you say, each to there own.....
