thinking of buying an ek9 and changing the details and sending it off to dva

basically change the engine cc to 1394cc and leaving the rest the same so when i go to insure it, it'll come up as a 1.4 on the insurance companies database. this way it'll become a 1.4 import.

anyone try this before to beat insurance?

i live in northern ireland and insurance here is about 60% more expensive than the rest of the UK

for me to insure an ej9 without ncb and a claim against me it costs about £2500...

This wont go down too well i dont think.

I think the insurance company will still see it as an EK9 and will hammer you for insurance, even though its only running 1400cc. Best buying an EJ9 straight out then save for a few years with a couple of years of NCB.

I know but there's a really clean ek9 for sale locally!

It's just an idea anyways, same idea how glanzas are registered as a 1.3 NA when imported over

Do it at your on risk. Your insurance policy will be void though if your unfortunate enough to have a crash due to the car on your policy being different to the one your actually driving.

How does someone so moronic have the mental capacity to pass a driving test?

It must be a Christmas miracle.

Find out what an insurance company thinks.

Give Adrian flux a call.

Anythings is possible aslong as you abide by the rules.

Oh I know, sounds silly but its extra incentive not to crash.

Plus I wouldn't be doing anything silly, as I don't want to be classed as a boy racer!

Also I'm 21 and the police have changed the law recently to 25 from 21 to be able to have 3rd party extension.

Have I misunderstood? Does he want to change the engine to a 1.4 or just the information on the V5?

Edit: OOPS! Ignore my previous post then! Good idea if you think it's worth the trouble!

Edit2: Oh noes! I was right first time.

Yeah it should be worth it, only takes a few mins to fill out the v5 form and send it away.

Insurance is always ****ing me over, so might as well try to bend the rules a wee bit!

You know if you have a crash and the insurance co. find out you've ****ed them, they'll sue you for all costs. If you cock up a kill someone, they will own you, not to mention you'll probably be chucked in prison. Is it really worth risking your future?

Oh, you can't swap down an engine size if it changes tax band. They will want waaay more paperwork than you will ever be able to provide without legitimately doing the engine swap.

This idea is stupid, massively so. It is so stupid in fact, that I would simply drive uninsured sooner than attempting it. I suggest you forget about it.

Oh ffs I thought you wanted to put a 1.4 in a EK9...

Your idea is rediculous, highly illegal and would land you prison sentence for fraud! No one is going to think idea is a good one!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA...Breath...HAHAHA111!!!one

What a 'tard!

right you lot are laughing but ive just got a quote for an ek9

no ncb, claim against me, 5k miles a year, fully comp, locked in garage, age 21: about £11k
1years ncb (everything else is the same): about £9k
2years ncb (everything else is the same): about £7.5k
3years ncb (everything else is the same): about £6.5k
4years ncb (everything else is the same): about £5.5k

would any of you pay this?

now a 1.4 jap import only costs about £1800 to insure...

insurance in northern ireland is a joke

Well done alpha, I live in northern ireland, My father and uncle have just seen your post,

One is the top claims investigator in motor insurance fraud in N.I and the other is a senior member of a local PSNI Traffic Branch team.

If you decide to do this, you will be caught and you will be dealt with by both magistrates court and claims court.

Lying either to your insurance company or to any government run body such as the DVLNI will end up in fines and most likely jail time.......
