Pucker up moment for N. Korea

When I'm using the interweb I am a secret-agent-astronaut-ninja-porn-star too! Nothing to be ashamed of :p

And the information you have shared with us is already in the newspapers, I read it just this morning in I, it's total conjecture though as very little information comes out of N. Korea apart from the charade they broadcast. With such indoctrination taking place I don't think any western perspective can fully understand the psyche of the North Koreans or their living god.

this "Show of Force" you mentioned...

This recent military drill was exactly that .... A Drill, in fact it is an Annual Defensive Drill conducted by the U.S and S.Korean Military combined.

Along with these B2's there were Submarines and 40,000 Ground troops. in fact nearly 29,000 us troops are still there... B-52's were used as well in this recent drill.

North Korea wants a formal peace treaty, security guarantees and other concessions, as well as the removal of 28,500 U.S troops stationed in South Korea. It sees the recent Annual drills as an offensive strategy that is aiming to invade and topple the Political Regime.. it does not want nuclear war as it is well aware it would not last long.. it actually believes that if it continues to make threats then it will be able to call the relevant nations to the table to be able to start talks about a peace treaty..

you have to also understand that it is trying to boost its nations confidence in its new leader, with all the military presence in the area it is obviously being shown up in front of its people.

do you understand that N.Korea has been at war with S.korea officially since 1953... no peace treaty has even been signed so they are technically at war.. so do you understand how it looks on the U.S that they are conducting drills in the area with the South Koreans, considering that S.Korea is at war..

Hence the reason that the U.K and Europe and in fact the rest of the world is not being threatened by N.Korea because they do not conduct defensive drills close to the borders of N.Korea knowing they are technically at war and knowing the area is turbulent with regards to political regimes and Do not have troops stationed their either.

Again, what I am about to say is not Classified information and can be found by simple searches in google. Covering my ass. I am sharing my personal experience.

These drills are in place to ensure that S. Korea can defend itself against a military offensive from N. Korea. These drills have been conducted for years. I was stationed in Japan for 3 years and participated in these drills. Our role was humanitarian relief efforts for the North. I personally participated in 12 separate drills in 2 years. During that time we were under heightened security measures, as every time these drills are conducted threats were sent by the North. Not only to S. Korea and the U.S., but also Japan. They don't threaten Europe because there is not a strong military presence from European countries there.

The US has troops stationed in just about every country we have ever aided or invaded. That will never change. There will always be a presence, and never a complete draw down. Hence-military readiness and joint operations are key. Therefore-drills must be accomplished to ensure mission capability and readiness. We drill with the UK all the time and in turn both countries are threatened by terrorist organizations for these drills. That's not reported in mass media though e.g. CNN, Yahoo News (which is crap), etc...

Exactly, no peace treaty has ever been signed. So we just leave an ally, that actually wants us there, to flounder? The main purpose of this drill is to see if S. Korea can self sustain. It is the first S. Korean lead drill. That is why the Norths military is being extremely vocal. Your probably not up to speed on US politics, but our forces are being cut drastically and so is our budget. US forces are spread too far and our government can't flip the bill anymore. The goal is to draw down from forward locations-this would include S. Korea, Japan, Germany, UK, etc... but the US will always have a presence and never completely leave.

I won't discuss submarines. I don't know much about them, but what I do I don't feel comfortable sharing. Not trying to be all secretive or anything, just covering my ass. Do some research, I'm sure there's lot's of information available and subject matter experts willing to talk.

Bottom line, these drills are nothing new. N. Korea drills a lot as well, but you don't have that reported in media either.

I also want to make clear that I'm not trying to argue. I'm trying to discuss. I'm just sharing my perspective on this situation and want to understand other people's points of view. If a war did break out, it would affect the whole world. Because of this, I believe that the more knowledgeable someone is in the world, the better person they become. Since the majority of the members on this site are not US located-this is a great forum for me to grow in knowledge and worldly views.

in all fairness its rather true, the us do like to annoy every country it can look at Iraq all the propaganda to go in and well take down a leader who had no weapons

Like a lot of Americans, I am not a fan of the Iraq war.

I don't believe now a days war is a possibility as too many of the big powers need each other like said before and the little ones need the big ones so would be cutting off the hand that feeds them. my two pence anyway

Personal opinion, Globalization is the end goal for the big ones and they'll wipe out the little ones to get there. I don't think we'll see it in our lives though. Maybe our kids, or our kid's kids.

agreed I dont agree with it at all, id of fought as it would have been my job, but id fight to help save/make a better life (try at least) for the people not because idiot politicians say so

totally agree its something I believe, I would like for it to be tru and with a pretty bleak recession for most big powers eu, us, saudi its hard to see many places realistically wanting war in my eyes. I do however think your right as there are always some crazy people who gain power all over world, n.korea leader being one, although crazy there strength is to small in my eyes to be able to follow through with threats an he after watching his father for so many years he has seen so much talk and no action I think he will be same. there will be another big war but I doubt and hope not in my life time

Vandal it is clear you have an understanding of this, my original comments implying people were ignorant was not aimed at yourself, clearly you are not ignorant.
as you say i to am discussing this topic..

With regards to N.Korea being a small force, they actually have an incredibly large military.

For example the British army as of 2010 was made up of nearly 150,000 personnel..

N.Korea have an estimated 9,500,000 in what is known as their political force, which includes reserves and N.Korean equivalent to the Homeguard or homeland security is you will. but have over 1 million personnel in their regular army. its actually the 4th largest army in the world..
they have 40 odd submarines nearly 2000 Aircraft. Its really nothing like the small iraqi forces encountered in iraq in the first days of the invasion. N.korea spends near to 40% of its budget on defence and military.

liking the info you got their vandal. :nice: mad to think you served out that way.

Its a crazy crazy time, and i just hope that the U.S doesn't push N.korea into doing something. Yes the U.S would be able to counteract the massive forces of the KPA but in reality there would be heavy heavy U.S and S.Korean loses something that i do not think the U.S would let happen, this is why in reality i really can't see anything happening. not to mention that the U.N and world treaties would then heavily sanction the U.S if there were to be any sort of conflict.

I love threads like these. A good discussion is hard to beat.

Also, the victors of war gain more resources-which in turn strengthens their economy. I have a hard time seeing how it 'ruins an economy' if you win-would you provide an example of a conventional war where this happened to the victor?

Two of the main examples I'm aware of are Britain after WW2 and the US after the American Revolution. Both nations were financially crippled despite their victories.

More recently the Iraq and Afghanistan wars have been "economically" terrible decisions.

My main concern about a war with North Korea would be the potentially massive civilian casualties that would result.

Btw, how cool is Tama's picture! :nice:

How are these for you Martin :D
Showing the B2 being escorted by 8 F18's, love the second picture :D

No i do not have weapons training or anything like that. lmao, contrary to popular belief alot of people work their and Nobody has a gun or a secret exploding pen :p only the police officers at the front of house have MP5's :)

my job role is classed as an Intelligence officer. but the officer doesn't relate to a rank like that of the Armed forces. As un-real as this may seem this is what i do.. i will say there is nothing Secret agent about it. i was contacted by MI5 HR after loading my C.V on to a job search forum, I mainly went for jobs in Information gathering field / intelligence / research / world affairs / international politics. mainly after working with UKBA and border agencies such as Interpol and Europol with regards to terrorist threats on a M.O.J Contract.
