My '98 Spec Mugen Equipped DC2

jasus ur fair gentle with the gear changes for a track day haha seems like a good healthy car man lovely work been done :))

Haha, Yeh I have a lot of mechanical sympathy for my car whilst still enjoying it! You be down at Mondello in Feb.? Thanks man!

Kris Try Alan down at AG Autmotive in portstewart honestly his work is top quality and hes not the worst to pay

Yeh Adam, I'm going give him a shout, heard he has a good paint mixing machine now! You talking about £150-200 per bumper you reckon?

So yeh, been gathering up a few parts for the new season and have some plans!

Picked up some 5x114.3 15x7 Rota slips for the track, difficult enough to find in these specs! Also have some 205/50/15 R888 in GGG compound, used but still plenty of track life left!

Also picked up a Spoon chromoly flywheel, Lightened fly made a great difference in response in my SiR.

And, I was asking about baffled sumps recently and decided to order a new Mugen one from Japan :nice:. I just felt more confident putting a new sump in rather than baffling my own and I have heard a lot of leak stories on the Moroso's aswell as hearing there designed more for drag racing? Mugen sump also comes with a new OEM gasket too, I also like the rolled edging surrounding the pickup.

Few pics towards the end of summer before it got put away:

Plans:

New gear oil, Gonna try that R Racing synchro 80
Oil change, have some more Edge 0w40, awesome stuff!
New engine mount at the timing belt side, Other 4 have already been replaced.
Oil cooler, Mocal thermostatic it's looking like
Front camber arms, Pro-series Plus or Hardrace - Haven't decided yet.
Both bumpers painted, properly!
Some rear PMU HC800 pads.

& More :(.

My plan is to make the car robust and in tip-top operating condition along with being sensible enough for the drive to work over summer!

Oh and, IT WILL HAVE WHITE MIRRORS AGAIN ASWELL.

Cheers
Kris

Lovin those pics ^^^ ha ur rite too man its ur car drive it as you like :nice: With the rate my car is goin definatly wont make Feb id say :( But stranger things have happened ha. But i will be in mondello in 2015 for my first ever track day :D Cant count the backroads as a track

Good choice on the sump, that's got to be the most hassle free way of doing it.

Plans for the car sound good. Thought about using that syncro 80 gear oil in mine as well so would be interested to see how you find it

Used syncro 80 before, decent enough oil if your using a plate LSD.
Probably switch back to it when my cars finally back together.

Yeah kris his work recently is top quality and has been for me anyway , wouldn't go anywhere else now , your talking £140 per bumper usually :\ compared to most I find this an alright price , good job on the sump I just bought the baffle kit and am baffling my own , but that mugen one looks proper mint !

Really like this build up keep the updates coming! Where did you get the mugen sump from?

Yeh, I don't feel ripping through my 'box gains me much so I don't bother, Never bother shifting in the blood either! Get it sorted, Mine needs an MOT and more work done for before then, Getting a hotel booked for the night before too so I'm good and fresh that morning because it's 3.5hrs for me.

Cheers boss! Yeh, I just can't seem to find that balance between cold starts and track. Hate paying sub £50 for gear oil though, but if it's worth it I don't mind.

I don't have a plate LSD just want robustness so the 'box stays in perfect operating condition.

I must get in touch with him Adam, also the baffles are just a copy of the Mugen baffles, I went through a Mugen whore phase for a week before Christmas and decided I wanted a Mugen one.. lol.

this really makes me miss my 98spec ...

They are lovely car's the '98+ JDM's, I can't imagine anyone not enjoying ownership 'IF' they get a good one! Love mine to be honest, I was gonna go DC5. But there are plenty more years left in DC5's, Good DC2's are becoming rarer and I want to enjoy a good solid '2 while I can :D.

Cheers! Ordered it from RHD Japan mate, Raped by customs and shipping, as usual...

So yeh, Went back home (Ireland) for a couple of weeks over xmas and really enjoyed seeing the car again, As usual with my visits I have a host of parts to bolt on which I've accumulated through a lot forum browsing and online car shopping.

Car hasn't been washed since it was put in the garage, but I don't mind it went dry which is the important thing. It can be washed and polished at a later date once I get the mechanicals sorted!

The work began! Honda driveway.

First task was to think about how I was going to fit my MOCAL oil cooler kit:
16 Row
Braided lines
Themostatic sandwich plate

Bumper off.

Mock fitting (Excuse foggy headlights, Never got a chance to polish them up yet):

Line routing, Braid looks racey!

Made some little stainless brackets and drilled the crash bar, It's heavy duty material! I also used locking nuts and put rubber washers between each points of contact to reduce vibration though the cooler.

Cleaned, polished & waxed the hidden parts of the slam panel:

Also gave the bonnet catch a good clean & degrease:

Mugen sump, To be fitted by mechanic along with oil change and oil cooler kit plumbed into the system, Didn't have enough time at home to complete this work myself, Sump is OEM loveliness like all Mugen gear!

Called a mate from Autoglass and he was able to windscreen bond my mount, awesome stuff and the rubber covers mean you'll never see it either!

Got my track wheels sorted for Mondello too & tyres on, New slips:

Instagram oil cooler pic:

Also fitted these, Heard a lot of complaints about fouling the arch tower, I'm gonna give them a chance since I don't run that low and I have pretty stiff suspension now. Nice, complete kit, had everything included even new split plans for the castle nuts. Need to run about -3 degrees on the front now, Always wanted to experiment with front camber, Will get it aligned when I'm back home next.

Now, The best for last? Although some will disagree! Bit of an impluse buy and never thought I'd have the balls to go for it, But I love how it looks on the car! Needs some repairs to get it 100%, Will have it on before summer I'm hoping! :D :D

Just cable tied it on for a look-see!

Next to install:

Castrol edge 0w40
Gear oil
Hamp shortie (Might help compensate for extra length the sandwich has added... might.. lol)
DS2500 pads rear
New MOT, Had it nearly a year now!
New front discs

Will keep this updated :nice:

Cheers
Kris
