My '98 Spec Mugen Equipped DC2

1:10 is a great time, they go very well in standard form and you would think that shaving a few seconds off lap times would be easy but it's really not

Slicks make a big difference, Ciaran actually improved his lap times by nearly 3 seconds by just changing to slicks, the difference is night and day!

Cheers man, means a lot :nice:.

Indeed, I think I wised myself up a little lol. And your right Phil, I should drop you engine it, and your gearbox with my 4.7 out of my box so it would be a bit more road friendly, sounds like I have it planned out doesn't it? Just ain't got the funds at the mo though :((.

Yes, They enjoy being driven indeed :nice:.

Ah that's a decent time indeed, I can see it getting better rather quickly aswell knowing you! I did a 1.10 with mine in stock, full fat form, (Hankook RS2's & mugen suspension & TL)

Hopefully improve a little on it this time on the 888's & coilovers, Mugen Intake and decat will hopefully make her breath a bit better since last time too.

My dad is going to run slicks this time I think too, should be a fun day :p

Would def be a weapon with my engine in it I'll get you to buy it yet haha if your after any r888's I've a set here in real good condition if your running 15's lol be good to get all us back on track, mugen (Ross) will be out in his car aswell so plenty of honda's. Then me,you,Ross and Stephen will have to head over to the main land and show them how us northerners drive ;) haha

Thanks guys, And Stephen, Unfortunately I don't have a cage for the slicks, don't want to risk tearing the little car apart! lol. You need to get on the slicks!!

Phil it would be lovely with your engine! But I'm happy with mine in standard form and I think I'd get very anxious driving a built engine the way it should be. Get that DC5 prepped for the new season ;).

So yes, Last visit to the track all year and it was such a good day, x3 DC2's, Stephen (Spek9), my car and my dads. The DC2's were doing the Red 'H' justice on the day. Installed the coil overs the day before the track and only really got to try them on the way to the track, but everything went great, confirmed there 32way damping adjustable too, needed an extra long 3mm allen key! The coil overs really transformed the car on track, feels very agile and poised in comparison to the Mugens, ended up at 26 clicks on the front dampers and 22 on the rear, put extra pre load on the front springs by the end of the day too. Really enjoy altering the settings and experiencing the effects.

Also used the 888's on the car for the first times as I've used the Hankook RS2's up until now and yes, there a great improvement grip wise, although they wouldn't be the greatest wearing tyre once you get heat into them. Prior to the day I also changed the gear oil, tried some motul 75w80, Huge improvement when cold, feels nice and slick, but I feel this oil is a bit light for track use, Back to the drawing board! Might use the 10w40 engine oil for track use as Stephen always gets on well with it at all temperatures. Changed the dizzy cap as I noticed my housing was split at the mounting points, realised it was quite well worn inside, satisfying job!

Since the mugen shocks, RS2's & Mugen air box the car is running on average 2seconds a lap quicker :nice:.

Anyway, the pics!

Mum's EP3 peaking in.

Need some negative camber on the front!!

Enjoy, Kris :)

Magnetic gearbox bung doing it's job!

Car is now garaged until 2015, few plans over the winter and importantly, Preventative maintenance! Oh and mirrors will be WHITE! Enjoy, Kris :)

Very nice. Looks very stable on the coilovers, looks like it handles very well,

Is that your dad mowing the grass? He's not shy when it comes to throwing the car around

Thanks mate, car's such an improvement, Mugen suspension would be great for a B road blast being so compliant, But don't match the coil overs on track! Yes thats him okay, he kept the shoe in it. He'd be a very competitive man my dad! lol

What are specs of that itr in front of you?

The first ITR (My dads) has a Cusco 1.5way diff & spoon gear set & lightened flywheel, with mugen intake and 5zigen manifold, RG coil overs, 888's, x1 bucket seat.

Gearset and diff make good gains on these cars, His car goes very well, The 2nd ITR is Stephens on here which has some nice upgrades too! Think I need a 1.5way in mine!

Aye your dad certainly wasn't shy haha, looked like a good day out, some quality father son time right there. Your gear changes look so calm and smooth, usually see people banging through the gears. Spek9's teg was going well as well :nice:

Looks like a great day! In the nicest way possible ure dad is nuts! Full tilt from the start! Looking forward to getting out next year with u lot. The more Hondas the better..

Yeh, it's always a fun day out, keeps hime happy! Thanks man, Yeh I've grown out of the whole gear banging thing over the last few years, It's not necessary on a track day car IMO, Mechanical sympathy plays a big part in it too. Always try avoid 'abusing' my car.

Yeh he certainly enjoys making the most of it! lol. Yeh I'll be back at kirkistown in the new year at some point although think my dad will be moved into a DC5 by then, something a bit more civilised and road friendly for him.

nice work!

looks like you are enjoying her...

Cheers, Yes I really am enjoying the thing and it's slowly getting better too! Plan is to make a very robust/safe car, Baffled sump/cooler is on the cards next along with plenty of preventative maintenance as mentioned.

Guessing they are not that strict on db limits at kirkistown, some of the other cars seemed pretty loud

They are generally quite relaxed which is good, They are more worried about tyre squeal as this tends to travel 'further' than exhaust sound, There are church's located at either end of the track as well and track days tend to be on a Sunday too. No problems or complaints so far though, It's a well run venue.

any updates on this?

Unfortunately no updates as of yet, Car is in the warm garage hibernating for winter, Another few parts for it to be bought, Nothing heavy, just preventative maintenance. Want the sump baffled, oil cooler, rear pads and some front camber arms.

Bought a used spoon flywheel for it too actually, forgot about that. Might look at getting it installed too. Plan on doing Mondello, Ireland in February with @Low_Life on here so needs to be in tip top mechanical condition by then :nice:.

Oh, Gonna get front an rear bumpers painted as well, need to find a place that can colour match, as CW is a bit of a pig.

^^ looking forward to it

flywheel is really one of the best mods for our cars!

jasus ur fair gentle with the gear changes for a track day haha seems like a good healthy car man lovely work been done :))
